Strictly a Blink-182 side project (featuring that band's guitarist Tom DeLonge and drummer Travis Barker), Box Car Racer doesn't stray too far from addressing the needs and concerns of the "other" band's core teen fanbase. Choosing to leave ... Full Descriptionbehind the toilet humor and skate-punk swagger normally associated with Blink, this outing instead goes down the road of vulnerability and insecurity that makes up the dark side of adolescence. Not surprisingly, Box Car Racer's stylistic hard-wiring features plenty of harmonies, prickly riffs, and pounding rhythms that come to the fore on the funky "And I," the hard-charging time changes of the opening "I Feel So," and the raging hardcore of "My First Punk Song."
Balancing out all this aggression are numbers where DeLonge swaps his electric guitar for an acoustic; heartfelt proclamations of love ("There Is") and the realization of life's fragility ("Letters To God"). Rounding out this self-titled debut are guest spots by Rancid's Tim Armstrong and A New Found Glory's Jordan Pundik (a chiming "Cat Like Thief"), and Blink bandmate Mark Hoppus ("Elevator"). BOX CAR RACER turns out to be an interesting visit to Blink-182's emerging serious side.

Delonge At His Best I love Blink 182, but I'm not sure about their new stuff. I don't like Angels & Airwaves, but I love Box Car Racer. It's just like Blink's turning point in changing, the songs are more mature but they still have the playful catchy sounds which Blink's older stuff had. A must buy for a blink fan. If it was an actualy blink album it wouild be the best one. Submitted by fags_r_us_2 (Sydney, NSW, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Box Car Racer CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Thursday Full Collapse CD (2001)
Box Car Racer album
$11.09 Full-on punk rock from these New Jersey rockers and this Chicago punk/hardcore label on the former's sophomore full length. Thursday's commitment and energy are in full effect from the outset of this hyper-kinetic set, while their debt to their contemporaries (and some of their labelmates) is clear on such songs as "Concealer" and "Autobiography of a Nation."
Musicality and songwriting smarts combine on songs such as the incendiary "Paris in Flames" and the punk rock ballad "How Long Is the Night." Additionally, FULL COLLAPSE is bookended by ...
| | Blink 182 Take Off Your Pants And Jacket CD (2001) Digipak
Box Car Racer CD music
$12.05 Older and more successful but no less fascinated by the same things as their adolescent fan base (toilet humor, sex, and awkward social situations), Mark, Tom and Travis greet 2001 with another platter's worth of chugging guitar riffs, infectious hooks and plenty of moxie. The album opens with the sequel to the last cut on ENEMA OF THE STATE. "Anthem Part II" is a generational rant focusing on the hopelessness felt by teens taken lightly by the world because of their age. Blink 182 does a fine job tapping into the universal theme of unrequited love ("Story Of A Lonely Boy"), divorce ("Stay Together For The Kids") and surviving the social perils of high school cliques ("Give Me One Good Reason").
Lest this become a musical equivalent to a Judy Bloom book, Blink throws in plenty of inappropriate moments of Sandler-esque proportions. There's the 40-second, jack-hammer fast diatribe against an ex-girlfriend involving unnatural acts with her parents ("Happy Holidays, You Bastard"), ennui-killing acting out ("Reckless ...

Box Car Racer music CDs
$12.05 Additional personnel includes: Robert Smith (vocals); Ken Andrews (various instruments); Roger Joseph Manning, Jr., Jon Morrical (keyboards).
In the world of emo and pop-punk, 2003 not only found Blink 182 qualifying for the early bird special, but the creators of a self-titled outing that represents a big step in musical maturity for a band best known for serial nudity and a jokey, skate-punk attitude. Rest assured, this trio hasn't lost its taste for serious riffing and catchy-as-all-get-out harmonies, as evidenced by the thumping "Go," the jittery "Stockholm Syndrome," and the anthemic "Easy Target."
For the most part, however, Blink 182 has cast a wide net in tweaking their sound, be it the stripped-down combination of Tom DeLonge's surf guitar and the finger snaps that define "Violence" or the tight shuffle drummer Travis Barker employs throughout "I Miss You." A singing and songwriting cameo by the Cure's Robert Smith on "All of This" makes for a strange surprise, but given the more serious approach taken by the Blink ...
