| | Antonio Carlos Jobim Certain Mr Jobim CD - Import Antonio Carlos Jobim Discography of CDs
Originally released in 1967, A CERTAIN MR. JOBIM is only Antonio Carlos Jobim's fifth American album, not counting the album he recorded with Frank Sinatra (FRANCIS ALBERT SINATRA & ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM) after the Brazilian style of bossa nova caught on internationally. Jobim (1927-1994) was perhaps the finest pop songwriter Brazil ever produced--he was also a fine singer, guitarist, and pianist, and many of his songs became jazz and pop standards.
This album has had a somewhat confusing release history, appearing as it did amid a flurry of activity by Jobim (including his work with Frank Sinatra) and bouncing between several labels since its first release in 1967. Made up of instrumentals as well as songs (all of the latter in English), it was a superb showcase for the melodic aspect of Jobim's art, though the material, like so much of Jobim's work during his explosive first decade of international recognition, represented something of a work in progress, a fact borne out by the subsequent reworking of the stunning closing number, "Zingaro," as "Retrato Em Branco E Preto." Claus Ogerman's musical direction offers a mix of influences, ranging from Dom um Romao's drumming to the presence of the first violinist of the New York Philharmonic, all combining to sympathetic effect. The post-2000 CD remasterings also offer superb sound and excellent annotation. ~ Bruce Eder
Remastered digipak reissue of 1969 album. It is believed by many that Jobim's best work as a leader was done during his relatively short sojourn on Frank Sinatra's Reprise label. The third offering for the label led to his arranger and conductor Claus Ogerman becoming somewhat a legend when it comes to orchestral writing for Bossa Nova compositions.
Orchestra conducted by Claus Ogerman.
Netherlands edition.
Digipack.Record Collector (magazine) (p.84) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[The album] boasts sumptuous Claus Ogerman arrangements and mixes vocal tracks with instrumentals..." Antonio Carlos Jobim Certain Mr Jobim Songs | 1. | Bonita | |

Certain Mr Jobim songs
$13.25 Trumpeter Bob Lark is the head of the jazz studies department at DePaul University but is virtually unknown in most of the jazz world. However on this set, he is joined by the great altoist Phil Woods, Woods' longtime sidemen bassist Steve Gilmore and drummer Bill Goodwin, and his former pianist Jim McNeely. Lark is not quite on the level of a Brian Lynch or Carl Saunders, but he is an excellent hard bop-based improviser with a warm tone and a creative imagination. Lark contributed six of the ten selections on this CD, which also has two bop standards and a pair of Woods numbers. The altoist consistently steals the show, still playing at his peak and creating one fiery and passionate solo after another, but Bob Lark fares well too. Hopefully he will record more often in the future outside of the college band circuit. Recommended. ~ Scott Yanow
Jazz trumpeter Bob Lark is joined by alto sax legend Phil Woods and his quintet members Jim McNeely, Steve Gilmore, and Bill Goodwin. The quintet performs many new and exciting compositions by Bob Lark and Phil Woods. Also included is “Charlie’s Wig”, the only Charlie Parker tune never before recorded by Phil Woods in his long and successful ...

Certain Mr Jobim CD music
$10.15 This adult contemporary singer/songwriter will have multi-genre hits. Pop, soft rock, country/Americana, torchy blues and torchy jazz are the song styles on this album. The music and powerful lyrics evoke emotional highs and lows, in situations that all people can relate to. Some songs feature prominent saxophone, with a Norah Jones or Quarterflash style. Kelly Domino has recently become a singer/songwriter full-time, fulfilling a childhood dream. She is living the title of her debut album, "Hold On To Your Dreams", available now. She is also a Wisconsin native, computer professional and wife/mom.Kelly has lived most of her life in the Midwest (Lake Geneva, Janesville, Chicago, Flint, Dayton, and Fort Wayne; the exception was 6 years in Albuquerque). She is happily married with four daughters, two of which are still at home. She is currently working on her second album, and preparing for her first tour (summer 2009), which will feature songs from her first two albums. Because the first album was cut using studio musicians, she is in the process of forming live performance and tour bands.*********************Magazine CD Review****************Reprinted with permissionHold On To Your Dreams Kelly Dominoby D.M.
