Originally released in 1967, A CERTAIN MR. JOBIM is only Antonio Carlos Jobim's fifth American album, not counting the album he recorded with Frank Sinatra (FRANCIS ALBERT SINATRA & ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM) after the Brazilian style of bossa nova caught on internationally. Jobim (1927-1994) was perhaps the finest pop songwriter Brazil ever produced--he was also a fine singer, guitarist, and pianist, and many of his songs became jazz and pop standards.
Remastered digipak reissue of 1969 album. It is believed by many that Jobim's best work as a leader was done during his relatively short sojourn on Frank Sinatra's Reprise label. The third offering for the label led to his arranger and conductor Claus Ogerman becoming somewhat a legend when it comes to orchestral writing for Bossa Nova compositions.
