Bramble Rose is one of the overall best new albums I have heard in quite some time. Tift Merritt has an absolutely beautiful strong voice that complements both her song-writing and her backing band. It is somewhat hard to classify this album into one category as it is alternative country, pop, and a bit of blues. The recording is clean and crisp and her band is solid throughout. I look forward to her next release and to a concert tour.

Tift Merritt has a wonderful, refreshing sound. Very impressive that she has written all songs on this album. I look forward to her next production, and, hopefully, there will be one.

WORLD WITHOUT TEARS was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. "Righteously" was nominated for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
Though it's ultimately a less balladic, more stylistically varied album than its dreamy predecessor ESSENCE, WORLD WITHOUT TEARS starts out with a slow-burning, reverb-drenched ballad, but then takes a sharp turn into sensual lyricism, pounding drums, and churning guitar on "Righteously." For some time, the dominant topic of Lucinda Williams albums has been the edgy appeal of dangerous, often doomed men, and true to form there are plenty of those on WORLD WITHOUT TEARS. Witness the tragic anti-hero of "Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings," the troubled guy with the "sexy crooked teeth" in "Overtime," or the psychologically damaged character whose "Sweet Side" still calls out to the singer.
That's not the whole story, of course; there's also the raw, stomping blues of "Atonement," ...

With the specter of a terminal lung cancer diagnosis hanging over his head, Warren Zevon responded by rallying to make THE WIND, an album that found him working with longtime collaborator and friend Jorge Calderon, shortly after getting the news. The "maybe" in the title refers to the fact that though this set is mostly taken from live concerts, some of the tracks are studio recordings. The live tracks here serve as a sort of de facto greatest hits collection for the first phase of Robert Palmer's career. The set begins with a rousing take on Allen Toussaint's "Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley," which stomps where the original had sashayed.
