Agoraphobic Nosebleed's 2002 tech-grindcore masterpiece, FROZEN CORPSE STUFFED WITH DOPE, unleashed a storm of disgusted outrage or hyperbolic accolades depending on whom you asked. The wickedly offensive song titles, lacerating storm of guitars, and speedbag drum machine beats all combined to create a caustic storm of digital grindcore brutality. Mastermind Scott Hull, who also did time in grind pioneers Anal Cunt and currently helms Pig Destroyer, can bend minds with lethal guitar terror, and his short-length songs are hit-and-run fatalities.
Unavailable in the U.S. Agoraphobic Nosebleed are an extreme over the top Grindcore band led by Scott Hall (or Pig Destroyer and A.C. fame). Their songs are as bleak and punishing as they come with unorthodox lyrics about blasphemy, sodomy, murder, blood and other snappy subjects, all barely one minute long! The title sums it up perfectly: 22 tracks of nearly all-instrumental, mostly original guitar music that is at once over the top, wild, intense, silly, screeching, humorous, and beautiful. The thirty-something Swede, a Frank Zappa disciple, recorded Freak Guitar on an eight-track in his bathroom with little or no effects (despite the outrageous sounds you hear). Most of the cuts are heavy and intense doses of headbanging material filled with lightning-fast shredding and mind-boggling runs up and down the fretboard. A few songs, though, stand out from the rest and serve to break up the somewhat tedious pattern (Eklundh himself -- in the informative and entertaining self-penned liner notes -- says, "Listening to this record from the beginning to the end nearly drove me insane.").
