(23 Customer Reviews)
Initial pressings of THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION included a limited edition bonus disc featuring four previously unreleased tracks.
Recorded between November 1964 and June 1982. Includes liner notes by Matt Kent and Andy Neill.
When it comes to a ground-breaking, iconic band like the Who, dubbing an anthology THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION is no small claim. The kicker here is that it happens to be the truth. Without venturing into the realm of the box set, there's never been such a definitive batch of Who tunes all under one roof before. Virtually all the bases are covered here, from such attitude-laden mid-'60s mod anthems as "My Generation" and "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere" to the conceptual expansiveness of TOMMY-era tunes ("I'm Free," "See Me Feel Me"). We get the full-on long-haired, bare-chested glory of the early '70s ("Won't Get Fooled Again") as well as the tapered, synth-flecked smartness of the early '80s ("Eminence Front," "You Better You Bet." For someone looking for an entry point into the work of this larger-than-life group, or just somebody who wants a great all-purpose who disc, THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION is truly a case of truth in advertising. Get one.
Keith Moon, Kenney Jones (drums).

buy it A FRIEND ASKED THE FOLLOWING - IT SAYS IT ALL I THINK . . .
"What do you think of the new Who collection? A fairly impeccable
selection of songs, but something you or I could have done in our sleep, right? "Call Me Lightning" is perhaps the only surprise. I always liked that song -- it wasn't released here but I had the British Direct
Hits. How about the sound? I'm only about half way thru disc 1. No revelations yet -- looks like that will have to wait for the stereo Shel Talmy CD. Have you A-B'd any of the early things? I may try to do that
tonight. I assume the mastering is similar to the box set. See for Miles is the stereo mix -- too bad, they coulda put the mono on the bonus disc. Too bad that Relay was left off -- would have been a good opportunity to put those four post Who's Next singles together. Disc 1 is only 67 minutes!"
AGREED 100% - BUT STILL WORTH HAVING . . . JUST WISH THEY'D GIVEN IT A BIT MORE THOUGHT AND CARE

The Who's Best Compilation This is truly the best "best of" album by The Who. A great selection of tracks, guaranteed to make a "new Who fan" explore the group even further. Personally, I would have included "Young Man Blues" from "Live At Leeds". Submitted by Hugo Ziptopoximus (Fair Haven CT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Ultimate Collection album
$8.59 This 1997 reissue of ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? is a remastered version that restores the original LP's track order and album artwork. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? was previously reissued in 1993 (MCA 10893) with new cover art and a new 17-track running order that included all the songs on either the U.S. or U.K. versions of the original LP. That version is now out of print, and has been replaced by this one, on the Experience Hendrix label, which features remastered versions of the same 17 songs, this time in the order they appeared on the original American LP, with the extra tracks added to the end (a separate version was simultaneously released in the U.K., featuring the same songs but in the original British track order). The Experience Hendrix label is controlled by Hendrix's family.
The 1997 reissue also adds a 24-page booklet with previously-unpublished photos, the original LP liner notes and song lyrics.
Recorded in late 1966 and early 1967 at Olympic Studios, London, England.
Jimi Hendrix's debut recording was an instant classic, and is as startling today as when ...
| | Rolling Stones Hot Rocks 1964-1971 CDs (1972)
Ultimate Collection CD music
$20.59 If faced with the absurd dilemma of picking one album to represent the meaning of rock music, the Rolling Stones compilation HOT ROCKS--which collects most of their commercially and artistically successful songs from 1964 to 1971--would certainly be in the running. A two-CD set (originally released as a double LP), HOT ROCKS' 22 tracks each have the ring of historical inevitability about them; more importantly, of course, they are great tunes. From the soulful wailing of "Time Is On My Side" (the only non-Jagger/Richards original here) to the nervous pop shuffle of "Mother's Little Helper" through the Indian-influenced psychedelia of "Paint It Black" and the gospel-inflected strains of ...

Ultimate Collection music CDs
$16.29 Recorded between 1974 & 1997. Includes liner notes by Jim Jenkins, Jacky Smith, Andy Davis, Phil Symes.
With Queen officially enshrined in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, Hollywood Records reintroduces the band yet again with the release of GREATEST HITS I, II & III. While Volumes I and II are full of Queen classics you already know by heart, the third cobbles together odds and sods from the far corners of Queen's canon along with solo cuts from Freddie Mercury and Brian May.
Opening with the operatic rock classic "Bohemian Rhapsody," it's easy to hear not only how this British quartet achieved the kind of global acclaim that ensured they'd be enshrined ...

| | Very Best Of The Eagles CDs (1994) Remastered; Digipak
Ultimate Collection album
$15.79 THE VERY BEST OF includes a 46-page booklet with pictures and track information.
"Hole In The World" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
This 1994 greatest hits package (released in anticipation of the band's wildly successful reunion tour and album) supplants THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971-1975. It adds seven songs, but unfortunately deletes "Already Gone," one of their best rockers.
What's most interesting about THE VERY BEST OF THE EAGLES - apart from the presence of obviously classic songs like "Take It Easy" and "Hotel California" - is that it demonstrates that the band's esthetic was fully formed from day one. Despite the fact that the songs here span nearly a decade, listening to them back to back you could almost believe they were the product of one marathon recording session.
The Eagles' founders Don Henley and Glenn Frey were forthright in their desire to bring then-emerging country rock to new heights of commercial success. Formed in Los Angeles in 1971, they learned from their observations of the scene around them, and subsequently took their ...
