Black Sun music CDs Product Description

Popular 2002 release from Germany's premier doom band; initial run packaged in slipcase. Black Sun album 2002, German import.

Channeling vintage Judas Priest while adding a touch of thrash metal dynamics and layered vocals, Primal Fear comes galloping out of the metal underground once again on Black Sun. By concentrating just a little bit harder on the heaviness of the music, the band manages to deliver a more consistently engaging product than many of their contemporaries in the power metal field. The abrasive riffing is nicely offset by the melodic guitar work, which brings to mind late-'80s Joe Satriani with its clear phrasing and fluid wankery. And there's nothing wrong with a little guitar wank when it comes to this kind of music, which is shameless in its use of dramatic riffing and button-pushing dynamics. The anthemic bravado of the catchy "Light Years From Home" is the album's true highlight, but several other songs also manage to capture that same attitude and power. The only thing that hurts the album is the dated nature of power metal, which still manages to evoke '80s horror films and jean jackets despite being years away from that time period. The album probably won't make the transition to mainstream metal fans, but anyone enamored with the power metal underground should give this bright and kinetic album a listen. ~ Bradley Torreano

Limited slipcase edition of the German metal act's 2002 album, available with the first pressing only. Nuclear Blast.

Recorded at Sonic Ranch, Tornillo, Texas & House Of Music, Winterbach, Germany.

Absolutely good !
This is their better album until now. This guys are sometimes compared with Judas Priest or even Iron Maiden . Yes, the sound similar in some circunstances, but if you pay attention you will notice that their style is unique, because they mix not only Judas or Iron, but also Mettalica or even Skid Row (strange, but in this case sometimes the vocals are similar, of course I think Ralf is much more technical, otherwise I aprreciate and respect Sebastian Bach work too...).They mixture all of this bands and make their own Power Metal, extremely talentous (ok, Skid Row is not Power Metal, it is only about the vocals). All the band formers are great musicians (Mat Sinner, Stefan, the other guitarrists and drumers). Forgive me, but Primal Fear is one level above the other Power Metal bands actually. I´m not an especialist, but it is not difficult to recognize this.
And, better of all, they are simple in attitude, not rock stars, this is what heavy metal is.

"Fear This"
True metal is definatly not dead, if it was then it has arissen fully and as strong as ever in Primal Fears' "Black Sun". From pound through your chest drums and bass as well as powerfull duel guitar chords this CD really rocks, but what gives this band a true "metal edge" in my opinion is the rock solid vocals. Ralf has the power and range to become the new "Metal God" of this era.

A GREAT HEAVY METAL BAND
Primal Fear has a definite Judas Priest sound, but I like the Primal Fear songs more. They seem edgier and more upbeat. The song are metal without sounding heavy and dark. This band fits right in with the GAMMA RAY, HELLOWEEN genere. Another good CD to add to your collection.

Straight ahead solid metal...
If nothing else Primal Fear has demonstrated musical consistency over the several albums they've put together. I have to pinch myself at times because they sound like Judas Priest. But their brand of metal is straight ahead and solid. They don't waver in their creativity as Priest has, which means they don't overly succeed or miserably fail (as Priest has). I can listen to any one of their CDs and from track to track I am never disappointed.
