European Echoes
$22.25 It's hard to believe that after recording as a leader for 40 years, DRESDEN: IN CONCERT is Jan Garbarek's first-ever live album. For those who think that Garbarek abandoned jazz some time ago, this will be a shock. DRESDEN is an engaged, kinetic, double-disc, two-hour performance of his quartet playing in the modern jazz idiom and using all of its tenets--from complex harmonics and rhythmic invention to extended lyric improvisation--to create a tour de force that honors all the music he holds dear. Garbarek plays tenor, soprano, and selje flute here, and is accompanied by his regular group that includes drummer Manu Katche, pianist/keyboadist Rainer Brüninghaus, and electric bassist Yuri Daniel. There are 16 compositions that include tracks from previous albums -- some of them radically but exquisitely revamped for this quartet and performance. There are also tunes by his bandmates, and an extended, stellar reading of Milton Nascimento's gorgeous "Milagro Dos Piexes," that features some of the most inventive and dynamic dialogue between Garbarek and Brüninghaus on record.

| | Andrew Hill Compulsion CD (2007) Remastered
European Echoes
$9.19 Jazz pianist Andrew Hill is usually identified with the 1960s avant-garde faction, but even within that crowd he was unique. Hill's approach embraced composition and harmony as much as it did freedom and fury. Like Thelonius Monk, he'd never unleash a downpour of notes when a few subtly well-placed ones could thunder just as powerfully. COMPULSION is a 1965 session featuring horn champions John Gilmore (rarely seen performing outside of Sun Ra's Arkestra) and Freddie Hubbard, the underrated drummer Joe Chambers, and a percussion ...

| | Le Tigre This Island Remixes CD (2005)
European Echoes
$17.45 Le Tigre's 'This Island' album is a deliriously addictive, hybrid sound the band calls "feminist punk electronic music." It's a mix of drum-machine samples, synth hooks, buzzing guitar loops, gang vocals, and foolproof bass-lines. Now we take it one step further with the aid of some of the world's biggest names on remixing duties, resulting in an irresistibly danceable collection of anthemic tracks whilst still retaining the thought-provoking lyrics that fans worldwide have come to expect from the band. | | Michael James Martin Just Lookin CD (2008)
European Echoes
$11.39 Hello, my name is Michael James Martin. I’ve been playin’ music, and writing songs, since I was in grade school. I recently won the Central Coast Talent Search Contest (Central Coast of California) held at the Fox Theater in Salinas, California and got to open up for Randy Travis, at the Monterey County Fair (2008). Up to that point I had not played in front of a crowd in ten years. Anyway, I had a great time and after the show many, many, people asked for my autograph and told me that I was better than Randy. I felt like a Country Star.! Who Knew? Well now I’m playin’ again, and so I decided to put my songs up on this CDBABY web site so that people who liked my performance could buy my music. I hope you like it!
