The last Stones studio album of the '60s finds the band, for perhaps the first time, accurately reflecting the spirit of its age. The erstwhile bad boy outsiders of rock now found themselves firmly in the center of the social and political post-'68 whirlwind, and faced up to the challenge magnificently. The band's confident climb to its artistic peak was begun by BEGGAR'S BANQUET, but LET IT BLEED is a quantum leap even from that musical milestone.

The album's opener, "Gimme Shelter," with its insinuating guitar introduction, leads us decisively out of Flower Power and into a world where rape and murder are "just a shot away," and the Devil of BANQUET is very much alive and taking names. There's a nod to seminal influence Robert Johnson, whose "Love in Vain" is a mandolin-accompanied highlight. The climax arrives in the form of "You Can't Always Get What You Want," bearing references to the fallout of the Swinging London era. LET IT BLEED finds the Stones brimming with musical confidence and artistic inspiration.

Remastered reissue of 1969 album, suitable for standard & 'Super Audio' CD players.

Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.106) - Ranked #32 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" - "...[The album] rattles and burns with apocalyptic cohesion..."
Rolling Stone (p.147) - 5 stars out of 5 - "[I]t's a howling force of nature....This is the sound of the world coming to an end. LET IT BLEED offers sympathy, in that slutty, decadent way that was the Stones' specialty."
Entertainment Weekly (9/20/02, p.104) - "...Impeccable..." - Rating: A
Q (6/00, p.74) - Ranked #28 in Q's "100 Greatest British Albums" - "...A watershed album...one that brought the curtain crashing down on the '60s....[They] played badboy blues-rock better than any white band alive, on either side of the Atlantic."
NME (Magazine) (7/8/95, p.46) - 9 (out of 10) - "...it tugs and teases in all directions, from the gospel-tinged lament `You Can't Always Get What You Want' to the voodoo wail of `Midnight Rambler' and `Gimme Shelter' to the redneck farce of `Country Honk'. A classic..."

5 stars Let It Bleed, Forever And Ever, Amen.
This album is a masterpiece, it's that simple. The Stones were "inspired" when they wrote and recorded it. The first cut, "Gimmie Shelter", is one of the GREATEST rock songs ever made. The last cut, "You Can't Always Get What You Want", is one of the greatest power ballads ever made. It describes the turmoil of the 60's, personal and political, and the choir dramatically illuminates the lyrical content. It is just breathtaking. In between these 2 monumental cuts, you will find such gems as: "Love In Vain" - lowdown blues with fantastic interplay between Mick's flawless vocal and the guitarists' licks "Country Honk" - the title says it all "Midnight Rambler" - the seamy side of criminal life, given the full sleaze treatment "Monkey Man" - awesome lyrics, blistering guitars, great tinkly piano. As far as the title cut is concerned, "Let It Bleed" is ABSOLUTELY the most deliciously NASTY counterculture song I have ever heard IN MY LIFE! Look, if you like classic rock and you somehow don't have this album, get it NOW. If you have a worn-out LP, like I did, buy the remastered CD. It's worth it. That's it! I can say no more.

5 stars Stones Do It Again
The Stones are the best and this early work "let it" come through. The songs are varied in structure and tempo with all the great tonal qualities that the old stuff used to have. This cd has been re-mastered, too.

5 stars Basic instinct blues-rock
I first bought this stones' lp when i was just fifteen years old, and it really conditioned my music preferences. It still gives me shivers when I'm listening to it. Mick Tailor's tremendous guitar breaks in midnight rambler make you understand that he's a deep and talented guitar-hero and Stones did lost very much when this artist left the group. The feeling is true and strong, Keith and the two Micks at their best. Get yer ya ya's out, USA 1969 tour was the crowning of this fabulous period.

5 stars Awesome
The remastering has definitely helped the overall sound of this album. Mick's vocals are clearer, the bass is more pronounced and Keith's guitars sound as if he's in the room with you. A must buy for any Stones fan.

This is a Hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both Super Audio and regular CD players. The Rolling Stones' first set of all-original material--a full two years after the Beatles had passed that milestone with A HARD DAY'S NIGHT--1966's AFTERMATH is arguably the Stones' first truly great album, as opposed to a selection of killer singles padded out with some forgettable filler. Not that the singles aren't killers; "Paint It Black" and "Under My Thumb" are two of the Stones' most inventive chart successes, their sitar and marimba touches showing that at least through 1966, the Stones were just as likely as the Beatles, Kinks or Who to release a single that sounded like nothing else on the radio. Of the album tracks, "Lady Jane" and "Stupid Girl" are standouts, the former another of the boys' ...

Recorded live at Madison Square Garden, New York, New York on November 27-28, 1969. Returning to the American concert scene after a three-year layoff, the Rolling Stones recorded GET YER YA-YA'S OUT! during a triumphant two-date stand at Madison Square Garden in late November 1969 that found B.B. King and Ike & Tina Turner opening for them. Having amassed an impressive recorded output during their three years away from touring, the Stones peppered their sets with hits, including "Honky Tonk Women," "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and "Street Fighting Man." Tipping their collective hats to Chuck Berry, the band ...

With the rise of groups such as Godspeed You Black Emperor! and Sigur Rós come more textured, orchestrated bands following in their footsteps. Under Byen is such a group, although lead singer Henriette Sennenvalt's fragile delivery on "Pilot" sounds as if it's Björk or PJ Harvey fronting the Sugarcubes. Delicate and yet quite intricate, the song takes on a dreamy but gritty tone as Sennenvalt guides things along à la Nico ...
