This box set is a compilation of all the Rolling Stones' singles from 1963 to 1971, including A-sides, B-sides and alternate B-sides from the U.S. and the U.K. releases. These 58 songs on 3 discs have been digitally remastered with most tracks in mono to reflect the sound of the original 45s. It includes a 78-page, 12" x 12" book with lyrics, detailed track annotations by Bruce Eder and essays by Anthony De Curtis and Andrew Oldham.
From the down-and-dirty Chicago-style blues and R&B of the group's early covers (Chuck Berry's "Come On," Willie Dixon's "I Just Wanna Make Love to You") to the dreamy chamber pop of "Lady Jane" and the proto-hard rock of "Street Fightin' Man," the band was always on the cutting edge, both reacting to and anticipating cultural and musical trends. One listen to this box, however, reveals that, unlike the Beatles, the Stones seldom veered far from their roots, always injecting a vital dose of raw sexuality and pure rock & roll spirit into even the boldest of experiments.
The London Years. 2 Cds-Dual Layer Cds/S.A.C.D.S
Producers: Andrew Oldham, Eric Easton, The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Miller, Jack Nitzsche.
Engineers include: Roger Savage, Ron Malo, Dave Hassinger.
THE SINGLES COLLECTION: THE LONDON YEARS comes as advertised--the box includes every American and British A-side and B-side the Rolling Stones released between 1963 and 1971 (after which the band began releasing discs under the Rolling Stones Records imprint). The fantastic speed and scope of the Stones' early artistic development have few parallels in popular music, and this collection not only details that incredible process, but serves as a microcosm of '60s pop culture as well.
The Rolling Stones: Mick Jagger (vocals, harmonica, percussion); Keith Richards (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Bill Wyman (vocals, bass); Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica, organ, marimba, sitar, dulcimer, recorder, bells, saxophone, harpsichord, Mellotron, background vocals); Mick Taylor, Ron Wood (guitar); Charlie Watts (drums, percussion).
Entertainment Weekly (9/20/02, p.104) - "...A triple disc that has all the recognizable hits along with must-own obscurities..." - Rating: A- NME (Magazine) (7/8/95, p.46) - 10 (out of 10) - "...indispensable..."

Excelent This is an excelent overview of the Stones' London years, with all the hits and some not-so-known gems. I specially liked CD 2, but all three are great. You should get this set instead of the "40 Licks" compilation! Submitted by a reviewer (Manizales, Colombia) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo 1 of 1 found this helpful.
THE BEST DECCA STONES RELEASE As I wrote in another review (not about the Stones), all the Decca anthologies are simply wonderful (Small Faces, Zombies, Them, Animals); the major praise for them all is their completeness and this Rollind Stones' Singles Collection is no an exception. All their Decca singles (hey 'reviewer' in Tennessee, 'Around and Around', 'Under my Thumb', 'Sitting on a Fence' & 'Gimme Shelter' WERE NOT SINGLES, ok?), many previously unavailable b-sides (tracks like 'Stoned', 'Sad Day' or 'Who's Driving Your Plane?' were only re-released on the long out of print LP compilation 'No Stone Unturned', while I Want To Be Loved', the flip of 'Come On', is re-released for the first time ever), some original single mixes (it's a pity that they had not included all of them but it doesn't matter) and a couple of rarities (the 'Paint In Black' long version & 'Street Fighting Man' alternate single mix). The sound quality surpass the early Abkco release and the packaging + liner notes are excellent. Ah, and for all the haters of mono tracks ... one of the greatest achievements of these new Abkco remasters is that they replaced all the crappy fake stereo mixes for real mono mixes that sounds more 'natural' and 'authentic'. Every Stones fan must have this one in his collection, specially for fans of their 60s stuff.

Great compilation- but not best versions I expected the best versions of the songs- some appear in stereo, some still in mono. It is an awesome collection of the songs that they released, but it would have been nicer to just release a box set with their best work. Some great songs are missing- Around and Around, Under my Thumb, Sitting on a Fence, Gimme Shelter..... just to name a few. Submitted by a reviewer (Tennessee) Was This Review Helpful? A Must Have If you remember watching the Rolling Stones on the Ed Sullivan show and all the other music shows back in the 60's and knew this was the band that Mom's and Dads loved to hate, (they made the Beatles look loveable) this is the set to have.
