1982 solo album featuring Thin Lizzy bandmates Scott Gorham, Snowy White and Brian Downey and guest appearances by Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore, Huey Lewis & Midge Ure. Wounded Bird. 2002.
Going by this album, Phil Lynott would have had a lot in common with Bob Geldof, with both of them writing songs that strove for memorable hooks and related to growing up in the rough end of Ireland. The Philip Lynott Album has some surprisingly sweet moments, considering Lynott's hard-rocking past with Thin Lizzy. It generated a bona fide European pop hit in a remodeled version of "Yellow Pearl" (co-written by Midge Ure of Ultravox), a sarcastic attack on Asian marketing methods. ~ Steven McDonald
Personnel includes: Phil Lynott (vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass); Midge Ure (guitar, keyboards); Mark Knopfler (guitar); Huey Lewis (harmonica); Mel Collins (saxophone); Darren Wharton (piano, keyboards, background vocals); Scott Gorham (bass); Brian Downey (drums).
Example of Lynott's diverse talent Great Album!! Each song is significantly different than the others. There is rock, funk, dance, story telling, and ballads. Some seems very intimate to Phil. Best song I like is "Together" Submitted by Lk4gold (Reno NV USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
Gone too soon This CD contains some real beauties which again show Philip's enormous talents. He was great within his Thin Lizzy and his solo work is proof of his craftsmanship. He left us too soon.
I enjoy every second of the album. Submitted by beechwood (Belgium, Europe) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
