Les Claypool is nothing short of a fringe art genius. With a cult following that has never relied on mainstream promotion or acceptance, the Primus bassist/vocalist forges ahead with his journey into musical madness, Frog Brigade. In typically offbeat Claypool fashion, the Brigade's third album PURPLE ONION was preceded by two live releases.
PURPLE ONION has the instantly endearing quirkiness of YELLOW SUBMARINE and the melodic abandon of JOE'S GARAGE. "Whamola" and "D's Diner" revisit territory forged in Les's Sausage/Primus days, while "Ding Dang" makes a relevant social statement about bigotry with trademark Claypool prose. In an age of marketing strategy and bandwagon trends, PURPLE ONION is refreshingly original and entertaining.
Eclectic 2002 album reminiscent of old Peter Gabriel, Tom Waits and Pink Floyd. Featuring guest artists Warren Hayes, Fish Fisher of Fishbone, Norwood Fisher and Lonnie Marshall. 12 tracks. Digipak.

Back to the Pork! This should have been the follow-up to Pork Soda. Don't get me wrong, I love Punchbowl, but it was a tangent. Primus never got back on the train that delivered us the first 4 cds. After years of waiting, this is finally back to the bizzaroland guttural Cheesiness that we old school fans first fell in love with.
Hail Les, BUY THIS MOFO, Y'ALL Submitted by Don Cabraloca (Wisconsin and Vermont) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
Very underwhelming from Les I love pretty much all of Claypool's work, but this one is one of the very few I think lets him down.
The odd moment grabs you, but a lot of it just sounds unfinished to me. The songwriting is weak.
Go grab Sausage instead. Or perhaps his newer efforts Of Whales and Woe, Oysterhead, or the Live Frogs cds.
Of course, start with Primus if you haven't heard them...in which case, you're in for a wonderful aural treat. Submitted by MortalWombat (Sydney) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo

BODACIOUS! This is definitely a must own if your a Les Claypool fan. Although it's very different from his other albums, it definitely has his style in it... So buy it! Submitted by Michael (Pasadena, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
