Full Descriptionher LIVE IN PARIS concert document kicks off with a swinging, up-tempo "I Love Being Here With You" that finds her making like Annie Ross, while also giving her top-shelf band a chance to blow. Aficionados of those aforementioned narcotized standards will soon be set to their ease however, as Krall moves slowly and deliberately through the likes of "Let's Fall in Love" and a bossa nova-tinged "I've Got You Under My Skin," her voice sailing atop a velvet sea of strings provided by Alan Broadbent and the Orchestra Symphonies European. Towards the end of the program, she turns to more modern contributors to the Great American (or in one case, Canadian) Songbook, offering a solo piano-and-vocal rendition of Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" and a decidedly pop-oriented studio take on Billy Joel's ubiquitous "Just the Way You Are."
Canadian version of 2002 live release includes one exclusive bonus track, 'Charmed Life' & the U.S. bonus track, 'Just The Way You Are' (Studio Version/Billy Joel cover). The first-ever live concert recording from Grammy winning vocalist/pianist Diana Krall, recorded at the Paris Olympia Theatre winter 2002. Here finally, captured in amazing audio quality, is an album showcasing the magic of Krall's concert performances. Krall & her band - perform some of the tunes from Krall's studio recordings, such as 'East of the Sun (West of the Moon)' & 'Devil May Care'. Joined by special guests John Pisano (acoustic guitar) & Paulinho DaCosta (percussion) for several tracks, including the Gershwin's 'S'wonderful'. The Orchestre Symphonique European, conducted by Alan Broadbent with special guest conductor Claus Ogerman, is featured on the upbeat 'Let's Fall in Love' & a haunting interpretation of 'I've Got You Under My Skin'. Featured on the album are live renditions of 'The Look of Love', the title track from Krall's platinum-certified Verve release, her first recorded version of the Joni Mitchell-penned 'A Case of You', & 'Fly Me to the Moon', a song not included on the previously-released DVD Diana Krall - Live in Paris. Talent, talent, talent.
A coming together of wonderful musicians in a most congenial atmosphere. We've all heard the songs before and done well. And they are done very well here, indeed. Close your eyes, listen, and enjoy the talent.

Well what can you say, I have been a fan of all kinds of music for many years. When i saw Diana live in Paris,i just could not believe the talent that this girl has. Whether it's playing the piano or singing, she just took my breath away. There is only one word and that is, Fantastic.

This is exactly jazz for people who don't like jazz. Of course, nothing to say about her "professionnalisme" (a terrible word to use). But where is the passion, the feeling, the failure? No where. The international success of Diana Krall is just that: an indication of the "decadence" of mainstream jazz himself. Jazz can't be "mainstream". It is, by definition, a provocation against all "conformismes". Or it is not. Diana Krall is the natural born child of the dreadfull Winton Marsalis, the man who want momofied jazz (and, alas, will sucess).

It may or may not be significant that Diana Krall's first album of new material since the ascendance of Norah Jones is the former's least jazzy, most pop-savvy album of her career. In any case, it marks Krall's biggest departure to date; THE GIRL IN THE OTHER ROOM is almost entirely devoid of the jazz standards that constituted her previous repertoire, and it contains her first recorded batch of original songs. It's possible that new husband Elvis Costello, who co-wrote all six of those tunes with his wife, was the agent provocateur.
