Backbeat album
$8.29 Principally recorded at Record One Studios & Larrabee Studios, Los Angeles, California. Originally released on Epic/Sony (45400).
Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
After a lengthy gap of nearly five years, Jackson had to pull something out of the bag. BAD was, after all, a difficult act to follow, and the press were trying to prove he was bonkers. This was a pretty decent attempt and fell in with the hard dance beat of the early 90s. "Heal The World" was much like the old melodic Jackson, and it became a major hit. "Black Or White" was the best of the rest, a well-constructed song in which he attempted to repeat "Ebony And Ivory" in the context of 90s dance music.
Additional Tracks
Engineers include: Bruce Swedien, Teddy Riley, Matt Forger.

| | Johnny Winter: The Woodstock Experience CDs (2009) Limited Edition
Backbeat CD music
$15.64 Among white blues singers of the 1960s, there were some who studied the music so intently they amazed even the genre's creators with their technical mastery. A select few, however, seemed to be born oozing authenticity, sounding just as soulful as the greatest black bluesmen while forging a completely new sound. Johnny Winter belonged in the second category. A long-haired hippie albino, he astounded initially skeptical listeners with his Howlin' Wolf-like vocals and wild Johnny Guitar Watson-esque guitar stylings. THE WOODSTOCK EXPERIENCE showcases Winter's first taste of national exposure, first with his 1969 self-titled debut album, and then with his set at the Woodstock festival later the same year. The latter ...
| | Mars Volta Octahedron CD (2009)
Backbeat music CDs
$11.18 For punk, metal or hard rock bands, the unplugged album is the one that shows whether they've been succeeding simply on energy and volume, or because of real talent. (Anyone who remained a skeptic of Kurt Cobain's songwriting skills must have been converted by Nirvana's MTV UNPLUGGED masterpiece.) And OCTAHEDRON, a quieter and more subdued Mars Volta album, proves that same fact for a band that's perpetually lived on a knife's edge of tension. Recorded in less than a month, OCTAHEDRON is by no means an unplugged album--it's not acoustic, it's not confined to ballads, and includes ...
| | Michael Jackson Greatest Hits: History Vol. 1 CD (2001)
Backbeat songs
$9.35 Includes liner notes by Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Steven Spielberg, Michael Jackson.
Having spent most of the '90s laying low, Michael Jackson spent much of the latter part of 2001 reintroducing himself to the public with a studio album (INVINCIBLE) and deluxe reissues of his Epic Records canon. Also released was GREATEST HITS: HIStory VOL.1, essentially Disc 1 of the similarly named 2-CD 1995 anthology HIStory: PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE BOOK 1. Regardless of how obvious the strategy of flooding the market with past and present material may have been, there's no denying how the contents of the GREATEST HITS package go a long way towards supporting the moniker of the self-proclaimed King Of Pop.
Amid rumors of rampant eccentricities, MJ plowed ahead crafting memorable numbers ranging from infectious dance numbers ("Wanna Be Starting' Somethin'," "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough") to heartfelt pleas for peace ("Black Or White", "Heal The World"). Jacko's pure chart dominance found him breaking MTV's glass ceiling of color behind the THRILLER juggernaut and its slew of smashes: - "Billie Jean," "The Girl Is Mine" (with Paul McCartney"), "Thriller," and "Beat It" with its blistering Eddie Van Halen guitar solo-cum-crossover hook. Thankfully, the greatness of this 15-track set supersedes any tabloid innuendo.
Includes a 28 page booklet.

| | Green Day 21st Century Breakdown CD (2009)
Backbeat album
$15.29 Still enamored of the concept of the concept album more than four years after AMERICAN IDIOT, Green Day unveiled its rock-opera sequel, 21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN, in 2009. Like its predecessor, BREAKDOWN wholeheartedly embraces the iconic punk-pop act's shift to a stadium-filling sound, while also remaining loyal to the San Francisco-based trio's progressive sociopolitical outlook. Even with a president in the White House that outspoken frontman Billie Joe Armstrong supports, he still finds plenty to rail against, with much of BREAKDOWN alluding to the earlier Bush years of the new millennium, particularly the surging, Queen-like title track.
Aiding Armstrong and his comrades in their sonic attack against conservative authority is renowned producer (and Garbage member) Butch Vig, best known for helming Nirvana's NEVERMIND. Completely in sync with Green Day's grand vision, Vig helps to create the huge spaces for ...
| | Essential Michael Jackson CDs (2005)
Backbeat CD music
$16.95 The title might sound like hyperbole, but this two-disc collection is, in fact, a pretty fair summation of Michael Jackson's career up to 2005. Of course, it's impossible for two discs to hold every hit single Michael Jackson has ever had, but THE ESSENTIAL MICHAEL JACKSON starts with the Jackson Five's debut single, "I Want You Back," and ends 38 tracks later with the 2001 comeback attempt "You Rock My World." In between is a chronological overview of some of the most significant pop music in the last three decades of the 20th century, climaxing with about two-thirds of THRILLER and half of OFF THE WALL, the album that in retrospect sounds even fresher and more exciting than its blockbuster follow-up. Disc Two starts in 1987 with eight tracks from the underrated BAD, and its second half does the listener the handy service of compressing the second act of Michael Jackson's life story (a time when the tabloid headlines were overshadowing his increasingly formulaic music) into nine entirely respectable, if not earth-shattering, singles.
Ensemble: The Seawind Horns.

| | Live Jam CD (1994)
Backbeat songs
$9.65 Recorded live at various locations in the U.K. between December 1979 and April 1982.
One of the most evocative and oft-reproduced images of the Jam is a shot of the band playing live onstage to an obviously enthusiastic audience. However the power of the photograph lies not in the obvious enthusiasm of the audience, but in the image of bassist Bruce Foxton propelling himself straight up in the stratosphere without the benefit of either trampoline of rocket launcher. Suffice to say those that were lucky enough to see the Jam's literally and figuratively electric stage show on a variety of tours will never forget the band's almost manic energy.
For the rest of us, there is LIVE JAM, the closest thing available to actually being drenched in Paul Weller's sweat. While LIVE JAM concentrates mostly on the Jam's more soulful later years, it does not skimp on earlier favorites such as "Modern World" and "Mr. Clean." However, it is in the later, more nuanced material that LIVE JAM truly shines. Somehow the obvious ...
