Although STRIPPED is supposed to refer to Christina Aguilera's emotional rather than physical state, you couldn't tell based on her topless pose on the album cover, where the only nod to discretion is some strategically placed hair. Like Britney before her, Christina yearned to get away from her wholesome pop image. In the process, she hooked up with a wide range of collaborators including hip-hop producers Rockwilder and Scott Storch along with a myriad of guest musicians including Eve, Linda Perry, and Dave Navarro. Despite all the glitter and glam, there's no getting away from the fact that Aguilera's singing ability puts her head and shoulders above her poppy peers. Her rich, throaty style works well on slower numbers like a soaring Alicia Keys collaboration "Impossible," piano-driven nugget "Soar," and the Mariah-like "The Voice Within."
Other highlights include the snappy, Lil' Kim hip-hop workout "Can't Hold Us Down," sweeping self-empowering rant "Make Over," and the ribald, jeep-beat crazy joint "Dirrty" featuring Redman. Most revealing (on an emotional level) is "I'm OK," an acoustic guitar-heavy autobiographical remembrance of childhood abuse. Britney Spears may not be quite a woman or a girl, but the newly minted Christina is definitely closer to the former.
Extremely limited version of her 2002 album, packaged with a bonus make-up kit by Miki that contains five different kinds of lip-gloss & five kinds of eye-shadow. The make-up kit is packaged in a bonus jewel case. The album & make-up kit are housed in an exclusive slipcase. BMG.

excellent Very mature grown up and underrated album. she has a new fan Submitted by a reviewer (eas hanover,NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Stripped album
$9.69 DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album. "Dangerously In Love" won for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. "The Closer I Get To You" won for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals. "Crazy In Love" won for Best R&B Song and for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The song was also nominated for Record of the Year.
Besides deft, pitch-perfect hit songs, the talented if volatile Destiny's Child was remarkable for its unpredictability, not always a defining characteristic of mainstream R&B. While there was certainly a formula at play in the songs, the structure was subtly unstable, never following standard progressions. Yet most of their singles flew to the top of both the pop and R&B charts. While DC was generally a collective, Beyonce Knowles clearly emerged as the most high-profile ...
| | Justin Timberlake Justified CD (2002)
Stripped CD music
$9.99 JUSTIFIED won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. The album was also nominated for Album Of The Year. "Cry Me A River" won for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
JUSTIFIED may represent Justin Timberlake's attempt to break out of the boy band mold and be taken seriously as a musician, but N Sync and, more specifically, ex-beau Britney Spears continue to serve as red flag reminders of these specific times. Ballads like "Never Again" and "Nothin' Else" bear the markings of classic break-up songs but, far from licking his wounds throughout the rest of this debut, Timberlake includes a number of cuts that celebrate being single including the Timbaland-produced cut "Right for Me" and equally the thumping ...
| | Jennifer Lopez This Is Me... Then CD (2002)
Stripped music CDs
$8.29 In the titles of both her debut, ON THE 6 (as in the NYC subway to the Bronx), and her 2002 release, THIS IS ME...THEN, Jennifer Lopez makes the assertion that in spite of her mega-successful movie career and her high profile, paparazzi-fodder dating life (from Puff Daddy to Ben Affleck), she is still just "Jenny from the Block," as this album's first single proclaims; a simple girl from the Bronx. That your average non-movie-star from the Bronx could probably not obtain a record deal so readily is a moot point, since Lopez can indeed sing and is undeniably a presence both visually and sonically.
Despite the unshakeable dance bounce of the aforementioned single, most of the record grooves with an almost '70s-sounding mellow vibe, including a faithful cover of Carly Simon's 1978 hit "You Belong to Me." Perhaps this smoothness is due to the one ...
| | Evanescence Fallen CD (2003)
Stripped songs
$8.45 Evanescence won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. FALLEN was nominated for Album Of The Year and for Best Rock Album. "Bring Me To Life" won for Best Hard Rock Performance. The song was also nominated for Best Rock Song.
Picture Tori Amos fronting Nickelback and you'll get an idea of the sound behind Evanescence, an Arkansas quartet whose introduction to the world came via the DAREDEVIL soundtrack. With its debut FALLEN, Evanescence further pushes the envelope on the aforementioned description, with frontwoman Amy Lee pouring her light-yet-strong vocals into the aggro-rock workout "Bring Me to Life" and industrial trip-hop of "My Last Breath." Although guitarists Ben Moody and John LeCompt leave no riff unplayed on hard-hitting cuts like "Going ...
| | Kelly Clarkson Breakaway CD (2004)
Stripped album
$9.29 With 2003's THANKFUL, Kelly Clarkson proved that her AMERICAN IDOL win was no fluke by putting out a solid album of gospel-influenced R&B performed with the panache of a seasoned veteran. In late 2004, the Texas native delivered on the promise of her sophomore record's title, BREAKAWAY, by diving headfirst into alternative-rock-flavored pop of the Avril Lavigne/Michelle Branch variety. Though there are still a few R&B-inspired moments here ("Because of You" is a soulful, string-laced ballad in the best Mariah Carey tradition), most of the album has a much harder edge than fans of THANKFUL would likely expect. In other spots, Clarkson goes the moody chanteuse route, particularly on "Addicted," where she channels the spooky melancholy of Fiona Apple with surprising conviction. Clarkson herself co-writes several songs on the disc, which, combined with the record's unexpected musical variety, suggests a talented vocalist coming into ...

| | Monte Montgomery Wishing Well CD (2001)
Stripped music CDs
$13.05 Monte Montgomery takes the challenge of being a male soloist well, creating a great mix of vocals and instruments to form many different sounds in his latest collection of modern electric blues music. While from the beginning it appears that the album will fall into a repetitious sound, making every song sound alike, Montgomery quickly breaks from that pattern to really create a solid mix of music. While the subjects of his songs vary -- from relationships in the first track, "Tug of War," to many others -- what the songs do have in common is their masterful lyrics. Montgomery has the songwriting ability to tell a story fluidly, without the overuse of chorus lines and repetition. In an age of poor songwriting, it is refreshing to open the liner notes and see magical and lengthy poetry. Perhaps the best example, as well as the best track on the album, is "Erased," a slower song that sounds very similar to a middle-aged Bob Dylan. A hopeful song with a catchy sound, it really draws the listener in as well as highlights Montgomery's vast vocal talents. Of course, this album isn't all about the lyrics. "Bagpipe" is a wonderful instrumental piece that combines great acoustic and electric guitar playing with some catchy percussion sounds. It is a nice break in the record, giving the listener ...
| | Gregory Isaacs Night Nurse CD (1982) Remastered
Stripped songs
$10.45 A classic release from one of Jamaica's greats, NIGHT NURSE shows the Cool Ruler at his best--performing melodic, chilled reggae such as the title track and "Hot Stepper." The title track was a hit for Simply Red when they covered it in 1997. Although at his most prolific in the mid '80s, when he was beset by financial problems, Isaacs managed to maintain the quality of his material as this album proves. The Roots Radics provide excellent backing for Isaacs' smooth vocals. Perhaps a bit too mellow for fans of more militant reggae such as that purveyed by the Revolutionaries, time has nevertheless proved this to be a classic reggae album--the epitome of the feel-good Jamaican sound.
Although his 1981 album, More Gregory, was picked up for international distribution, Gregory Isaacs' 1982 release, Night Nurse, was his first to be designed for an audience outside Jamaica. Accordingly, Island Records head Chris Blackwell upgraded the overall sound quality, making this Isaacs' most professional-sounding record yet, and he brought in synthesizer player Wally Badarou to overdub keyboard parts on the tracks, making them less spare and distinguishing the arrangements more. Isaacs and his backup band, the Roots Radics, had a tendency to set up a groove and play, with only minor differences from one track to the next, but Badarou brought a different flavor to each song. Isaacs responded to his greater opportunity with a strong collection of compositions, starting with the title ...
