| | Gregory Isaacs Night Nurse CD (1982) Remastered
Verbalize CD music
$10.45 A classic release from one of Jamaica's greats, NIGHT NURSE shows the Cool Ruler at his best--performing melodic, chilled reggae such as the title track and "Hot Stepper." The title track was a hit for Simply Red when they covered it in 1997. Although at his most prolific in the mid '80s, when he was beset by financial problems, Isaacs managed to maintain the quality of his material as this album proves. The Roots Radics provide excellent backing for Isaacs' smooth vocals. Perhaps a bit too mellow for fans of more militant reggae such as that purveyed by the Revolutionaries, time has nevertheless proved this to be a classic reggae album--the epitome of the feel-good Jamaican sound.
Although his 1981 album, More Gregory, was picked up for international distribution, Gregory Isaacs' 1982 release, Night Nurse, was his first to be designed for an audience outside Jamaica. Accordingly, ...

Verbalize music CDs
$10.65 This collection of traditional Hungarian gypsy classics is performed by Andras Farkas, a veteran of concert circuits and hotel circuits alike. The songs range from the more relaxed love songs to the fiery dances, always with Farkas' violin leading the ensemble. The ensemble can switch relatively well from a controlled movement together to a stretch of collective improvisation at a moment's notice, with punctuations provided by the cimbalom from time to time to pull the group back together. Some of the more interesting features of this album are ...
| | Rashad Yarnell CD (2006)
Verbalize songs
$9.35 Now here captures the stage an exposing, yet light-hearted smile underneath magnetic and sincere eyes.........as there are eager ears in a room it is quite apparent that the vivid and well-formed voice all fit perfectly over an intricate, luxurious ballad..... With Rashad Yarnell it is immediately obvious that he so effortlessly exudes a special brand of classic appeal through his words, music and especially in his natural phrasing - a talent for technique and feel that could never be constructed, conjured and certainly nay we say duplicated. When Rashad sings that it feels like "Fire", we sweat and from his soul he digs deep when "It's Over" and we know he's never going back again. And the mature, mellow soul he eases into "After the Rain" returns the audience to this usual cool gregarious self. We want to know from what soul? from where? how? Born in Virginia, Rashad's musical understanding of the world began in the soul-drenched culture of the church where he was later raised in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The deep music and vivid meanings enveloped his soul and captured his mind and the passion of a people met a uniquely quick-witted and intellectual mind. He took these convictions away to study in the department of music at Greensboro's North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. He never failed to bring down the house at a wedding, funeral or talent show with his varied, yet understandable meldoic variation and convincing passion. However, even at the ...

Verbalize album
$11.39 'At midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold'St. Andrew NovenaPerformed on a 5-octave Celtic harp and a 118-string salterio, this CD is about the peace and beauty of Christmas - not the shopping malls and parties. Put it on and turn down the lights. Spend some time in gratitude or admiring your Christmas tree. And take a deep breath and relax. And step back into the first Christmas Eve.Angels and shepherds, a mother and child, birds and beasts - all are part of the mystery of Christmas Eve but so familiar we take them for granted. Legend said that Christ was born at midnight and all creation stopped in amazement. And then began to rejoice! With carols from France, Spain, Germany, Austria, the U.S.A., and Ukraine, as well as a Chaldean hymn from Iraq and a lullaby from China, old favorites share the stage with some beautiful, less-familiar tunes. May this mixture of tenderness and joy bring you closer to all you love in this season of delight. The salterio heard on three tracks here is a modern child of zithers that date back to antiquity. Its rich, bell-like tone with clouds of overtones is like no other. And Mary Jane is thrilled to be one of the first to bring this marvelous sound out of the monasteries where it was developed into the wider world. Mary Jane Ballou has spent her life surrounded by music, joining her first choir at the age of three. Early piano studies culminated in conservatory training on that instrument as well as the organ. When the Celtic harp appeared, it was love at first sight and a chance to explore a whole new world of music. Mary Jane's 118-string salterio ...
