A sprawling collection of raw instrumental rock, prog and complicated rhythms, the Feud's sophomore album, Language Is Technology rolls along through angular math rock grooves that constantly trade off back and forth. It makes for one dynamic album steeped in both '70s rock and roll and Chicago avant rock. While blistering, Language Is Technology never reaches the frenetic heavy metal assaults of the like-minded Fucking Champs. Instead, on tracks like "Tidy Sum," the group focuses on carefully crafted, catchy melodies. "Curdins Haylyn" is one beautiful piece of stargazing space rock -- sort of like Mogwai covering Godspeed You Black Emperor! in a sunny mood. And though the Feud never seems quite to touch the sonic inventiveness of those two bands, their complex instrumentals gracefully form the bridge between metal and indie rock and result in large-scale anthems. ~ Charles Spano
