Commemorating the 25th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, 30 #1 HITS presents a career-spanning serving of the King's chart-toppers.
Dating back to "Heartbreak Hotel" (which was inspired by a suicide note printed in the Miami Herald), most of these cuts have become indelibly etched into the fabric of pop culture and each has a unique story behind it. "Love Me Tender" has its origins in the Civil War ballad "Aura Lee," "It's Now Or Never" found Elvis Americanizing the Neapolitan ballad "O Sole Mio," and "Wooden Heart" likewise was converted from a German children's song.
This Memphis native's choice of artists to cover was equally intriguing and includes Hollywood legend Al Jolson ("Are You Lonesome Tonight?"), New Orleans soul shouter Smiley Lewis ("One Night"), blues great Big Mama Thornton ("Hound Dog"), and country titan Hank Snow ("[Now And Then There's] A Fool Such As I"). Further testimony of Presley's long-lasting appeal is the inclusion of the JXL Radio Edit Remix of "A Little Less Conversation," a UK #1 that not only enabled Elvis to have more chart-toppers than The Beatles, but also became a hit in a number of other countries including the United States.

Elvis 30 #1 Hits Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Superb DVD-Audio quality does justice to Elvis! For a long time I resisted buying the CD version of '30 No 1 Hits' until I found a reliable source on the web to buy the DVD-Audio version, which seems to be unavailable in Toronto. Well,it has paid off for me! The Engineer who carried out the re-mastering work, has done an excellent job. Congratulations!
I have quite a decent surround sound system, which generally discerns very well, the audio quality of any dvd-audio disc I throw at it. It acquitted the audio quality of this disc, with full marks! I heard with great clarity all of the instruments used in the rendition of the music with a life-like presence of Elvis's vocals. The drum, bass & guitar lines were vivid! All of this, I never experienced with his recordings on vinyl or on mere CD's.
As for Elvis's music, it is perennial! Next, I wish the engineers will put out a dvd-audio disc of his cover nos, as well. Submitted by MOHANAMARASINGHE (Scarborough,Toronto.Ontario) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

DVD-A Review Naturally this is re-mastered to the DVD-A format. The majority of the songs came out very good. You can truley hear the separation in the 5.1 format. All-in-all a good piece of music for every collection. Submitted by GC (ST Louis MO) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not really DVD-A I've to say that the music is good (it's Elvis), but the supposedly DVD-A is nothing even close. Excep[t for the firts song, you may hear a little surround coming out, none of the rest of the songs have any audible seperate channels. It's extremely poor DVD-A. I'd call it cheating to put it in his category. The publisher has misled consumers. Submitted by Dave Harrison (santa Barbara, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A very interesting recording If anyone has purchased the CD version of this album and then compared the two, the first thing you notice is that the track order on this DVD-Audio disc is exactly the opposite of the CD. Another thing... there were no visuals on this disc. Every other DVD-A disc has some sort of still image on the TV screen while the music plays. On this disc, there's nothing. A dark screen. So turn off the TV and enjoy the music. The surround mixes were done well, and Elvis never sounded better. RCA's consequent merge with Sony Music has since put the kibosh on any more DVD-A releases. I'd even settle for some SACD. But this disc shows off the King as he's never been heard, so pop the disc on your player, sit at the apex of the speakers, and dig the sounds.
