| Joey Tempest Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) Joey Tempest - 2002 A well-written, personal work filled with introspective lyrics, great melodies & clever hooks. A softer sound from the current Europe material (2004) but still showcasing Joey's wonderfully distinctive vocals. Strongest track: "Forgiven" & some others sound a bit like David Usher's style.
Definitely a must for all Joey & Europe fans! Submitted by carolyn.como (Toronto, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Wonderful [This cd is incorrectly placed in the "heavy metal" category. This is a pop cd]. Very well done album. Good songwriting, and great production. The guitar sound has more weight to it than his previous two releases, though overall it's a fairly laid back record. Joey's voice has never sounded better. Top favorites are the uptemo "forgiven" (the first single), tender ballad "superhuman", and midtemo tracks "always on the run" and "loved by me". Joey Tempest music CDs
$16.39 When you think of '80s pop/prog-rockers Europe, arena-worthy singalongs (à la "The Final Countdown"), and tear-inducing power ballads (à la "Carrie") immediately come to mind. But with the group's 2006 effort, Secret Society (their second since reuniting in the early 21st century), Europe has endured a total musical makeover. In place of their once glossy pop production is a much more heavy sound, while the once overtly melodic vocals of Joey Tempest have toughened up considerably, and guitarist John Norum's once shredding leads have been considerably scaled back. Led Zeppelin is obviously a major influence on the album-opening title track, while cuts such as "Love Is Not the Enemy" and "Let the Children Play" feature some unmistakably nu-metal riffs. And Europe certainly receive credit for producing and writing the album entirely on their own ...
| | Winger IV CD (2006)
Joey Tempest songs
$13.85 Many figured that the last they heard from Winger was 1993's coolly received Pull, as the group splintered shortly after the album's release in the face of grunge's brief reign and Beavis & Butthead deeming the group un-hip. But with just about every '80s band reuniting in the much more hair metal-friendly climate of the early 21st century, it was only a matter of time until the Winger gentlemen reappeared. And in 2006, three-fourths of the original Winger lineup returned, with the appropriately titled IV. Although original keyboardist/guitarist Paul Taylor is nowhere to be found, Winger's other main three -- singer/bassist Kip Winger, guitarist Reb Beach, and drummer Rod Morgenstein have all reclaimed their rightful positions. Instead of trying to completely overhaul the Winger sound for the 21st century, the lads stick closely to the expected Winger musical template, which switches between heavy rockers (the album-opening "Right Up Ahead"), pop with a ...
| | Europe Almost Unplugged CD (2008) (Import)
Joey Tempest album
$12.15 One thing about most hair metal bands of the '80s -- they were not necessarily known to be "proficient" at their respective instruments. But one such group from the genre that certainly had the chops to back up their pretty boy looks was Europe, which prove this theory once again on their 2008 live CD, Almost Unplugged (which was issued as a DVD a year later). Recorded at a venue in Stockholm (called Nalen) on January 26, 2008, Almost Unplugged sees the group joined by a string quartet as they balance originals with a few classic rock nuggets, including Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here," Thin Lizzy's "Suicide," and UFO's "Love to Love," among others, as well as a still-bombastic rendition of "The Final Countdown." Surprisingly, there is no rendition of their power ballad, "Carrie," included here, which you'd think would have fit in well with all the other stripped-down tunes here -- especially when overbearing cheese such as the song "Hero" is included (although admittedly, the song's meaning is heartfelt -- it's a tribute to the late, great Phil Lynott). The histrionics may be toned down a tad here, but Almost Unplugged serves as further proof that Europe remain arena rock kings throughout...Europe. ~ Greg Prato
Europe's singer Joey Tempest: In Stockholm in January 2008 we added a very special concert to our Secret Society tour. We had long talked about doing a 'one off' gig with a string quartet in a more intimate setting. We had also ...

| | Johnny Hates Jazz Very Best Of CD (1993) (Import)
Joey Tempest songs
$9.25 2003 compilation for the British sophisti-pop trio best known for their 1987 hit debut single 'Shattered Dreams'. The 16 track collection features all of their singles & significant album tracks as well as two remixes, 'Shattered Dreams' (12 Inch Extended Mix), & 'Turn The Tide' (Rogue Vogue Mix). Copy Controlled. EMI Gold.
This album will raise eyebrows. After all, didn't Johnny Hates Jazz have only one hit song? Forget the band's brief popularity on the American charts. Johnny Hates Jazz was a vastly underrated group, a British pop act whose handsome looks blinded many to the talent bubbling underneath the surface. Most of the record consists of tracks from the band's debut LP, Turn Back the Clock, and their lesser-known follow-up, Tall Stories. Tall Stories was recorded after vocalist Clark Datchler left the group, replaced by Phil Thornalley. Since the long-deleted Tall Stories is hard to find, this might be the only opportunity for fans to hear songs from it. Three of them are collected here: "Let Me Change Your Mind," "Last to Know," and "Fool's Gold." Sounding no different than anything on Turn Back the Clock, these tracks prove that Johnny Hates Jazz didn't lose their knack for soulful, danceable hooks after Datchler's departure. ...

| | Ozzy Osbourne Ozzmosis CD (1995) Japan
Joey Tempest CD music
$26.39 Let us all be thankful that Ozzy's retirement didn't stick. It supposedly lasted for three days, after which he got bored and started working on this project. Heavy, riff-intensive tunes, progressive song structures and a little psychedelia give OZZMOSIS a definite Sabbath flavor. Ozzy must have been in touch with whatever inspired early classics like PARANOID and MASTERS OF REALITY. Witness the extremely chunky "Thunder Underground," which can stand up next to "Sweet Leaf" and "Symptom Of The Universe" as an archetype of hard rock. The trippy guitar in "Ghost Behind My Eyes" and "Denial" are not some young Ozzy-wannabe going for a retro sound--this man was there, "Planet Caravan"ing.
Still, this heavy metal daddy in touch with his roots is also hip to the genre's latest sound. OZZMOSIS has a live, up-front feeling, thanks to producer Michael Beinhorn (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden). Zakk Wylde's huge, raw guitar also plays a major role. He provides scorching solos, lush textures and juicy fills with a muscular tone and minimal effects--the perfect complements to Osbourne's songwriting.
But more important than the raging guitars and the big sound is attitude. Ozzy's spunk has indeed rejected retirement. ...
