| | Fall Extricate CD Fall Discography of CDs
1990's EXTRICATE is among The Fall's most personal and least political albums. Recorded immediately after former Fall guitarist Brix Smith left both her husband, Mark E. Smith, and his band, EXTRICATE has little of the pop influence Brix had brought to the band during her six-year tenure. The reversion to The Fall's more abrasive pre-Brix sound is helped by the return of early Fall guitarist Martin Bramah to the fold. His distinctively scratchy guitar sound is one of the album's defining elements, the other being the near-obsessive venom Smith pours on his ex-wife, especially in the explosive opener "Sing! Harpy."
Elsewhere, the band enthusiastically tackles "Black Monk Theme Parts I and II" by the then-obscure '60s avant-garde band The Monks and works up a jagged wall of noise behind traditional Smith rants like "Arms Control Poseur" and "British People In Hot Weather." EXTRICATE is one of The Fall's finest efforts.

| | Muddy Waters Folk Singer CD (1964) Remastered
Extricate CD music
$8.49 Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24-karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box.
"You Can't Lose What You Ain't Never Had" and "The Same Thing" did not appear on the original version of FOLK SINGER. They were recorded at a separate session in April 1964, three months after FOLK SINGER was released.
The title and cover photo of this 1963 recording were an attempt to cash in on the burgeoning American folk revival, but this is pure acoustic blues. Muddy began his career as a Robert Johnson-style solo acoustic performer, and the tunes on FOLK SINGER hark back to those days. He's accompanied sparsely by Willie Dixon, drummer Clifton James and a young Buddy Guy, who provide a stark, deliberate backdrop for Muddy's rich vocal and expressive bottleneck guitar work. The richness of Muddy's baritone is showcased effectively here, with more room than ...

In this wonderful post-Internet age, when albums can be ordered from halfway around the world with nothing more than an email address and a credit card, there's something almost nostalgic about an album like Me, Myself and Rye...An Introduction to the Russian Futurists. As recently as during MTV's early years, when suburban teens across America were being introduced to colorful and exotic British new wave acts, it was a common procedure for an American label to cut and paste a debut album for the U.S. market out of the two or three extant albums, ...
