| | Ozric Tentacles Spice Doubt CD Ozric Tentacles Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
The first live Ozrics disc since LIVE UNDERSLUNKY, SPICE DOUBT is mostly culled from the band's later '90s catalog, cobbling liberally from ARBORESCENCE and BECOME THE OTHER, with a track or two from STRANGEITUDE and some new surprises. Get past the kooky, highly collectible packaging (the jewel box is encased in a spongy plastic cover containing green goo in which prehistoric fish float) and immerse your aural canals in an hour of real-time starship rock.
"Cat DNA" emerges off the top, the band extending the original take with a swampy introduction before hurtling off into the cosmos. "Sploosh!" is everybody's favorite quicksand jam-its sequencers boiling to the undertow of a motorik beat. The remaining agenda lavishes the band's trademark humoresque touches, frenzied drumming, and sounds wrenched from a parallel universe. A splendid time is guaranteed for all, but it is a limited pressing. Snatch one while you still can.
A classic album remasterd and repackaged in a stunning digipack.

Recording information: Sy Klopps Studios, Recording Studio. Ozric Tentacles Spice Doubt Songs Spice Doubt Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) What a find! With enough talent to carry two or more bands, the Ozrics put it all together in an incredible live-in studio performance that will blow any long-time prog-rocker away. Try to find one missed lick in this Masterpeice. With all the overproduced material out there, it is truly a joy to find something with such depth that still maintains a truly organic sound. I could struggle on in vain in an attempt to put some kind of label on this production so let this suffice: 5 STARS! and the perfect introduction to the Ozrics. If this is your first taste of Ozric Tentacles it won't be your last. Submitted by a reviewer (Green Lane, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Spice Doubt leaves no doubt Ozric Tentacles' Spice Doubt shows that there is still quality Rock n' Roll bands out there whose members aren't pushing 60. The complex and intricate
numbers from this instrumental band are an island of quality in a sea of canned rhythms and marketed lyrics. Of particular note, check out Sploosh!, Dissolution, and tour de force Oddentity. Remember, this is allmusic performed live in studio. Submitted by a reviewer (Schaumburg, IL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$9.49 This 1997 reissue of ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? is a remastered version that restores the original LP's track order and album artwork. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? was previously reissued in 1993 (MCA 10893) with new cover art and a new 17-track running order that included all the songs on either the U.S. or U.K. versions of the original LP. That version is now out of print, and has been replaced by this one, on the Experience Hendrix label, which features remastered versions of the same 17 songs, this time in the order they appeared on the original American LP, with the extra tracks added to the end (a separate version was simultaneously released ...
| | Herman's Hermits Their Greatest Hits CD (1973)
Spice Doubt songs
$9.89 When all is said and done regarding the most influential power pop bands of the '60s, Herman's Hermits and Tommy James & the Shondells emerge as the clear-cut winners for the same reason: Their music was so diverse and well constructed that it showed the different dimensions of a genre that inspired music smart enough to respect its roots which, in turn, inspired music too hip for its own good -- the modern rock movement that was not half as much fun as "the new wave," or as essential as anything found on ABKCO's perennial release of Herman's Hermits' Their Greatest Hits.
That Peter Noone and Tommy James were masterful interpreters of perfect and succinct little musical episodes is one big part of it, the song selection being the other master stroke. "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter" opens this 16-song collection, every tune coming in under 180 seconds except for the cover of the Skeeter Davis classic "The End of the World," which comes in at exactly three minutes. The fine art of the hit single is here in all its glory, Graham Gouldman represented twice with two exquisite melodies, "No Milk Today" and "Listen People." Try getting both songs out of your head after a listen, pop that the word infectious was created for and totally different from the Carole King/Gerry Goffin classic "I'm into Something Good" and the Carter/Lewis gem "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat." As with any Tommy James compilation, you have to admire how great the voice of Peter Noone is with so much varied material. "I'm Henry the VIII I Am" is just so different from Ray Davies' "Dandy," both not sounding anything like the sublime remake of Sam Cooke's "(What A) Wonderful World." It's a dazzling array of chord changes, textbook production technique authored -- not followed -- by Mickie Most, and colorful notes coming together with majesty that the many this music inspired are hardly able to touch. These short musical passages are the ...

| | Two Loons For Tea Looking For Landmarks CD (2002)
Spice Doubt music CDs
$9.59 The Seattle duo of guitarist Jonathan Kochmer and vocalist Sarah Scott, otherwise known as Two Loons for Tea, gathered another stellar group of musicians for its sophomore release. Once again working with musicians whose credits include King Crimson, Brian Eno, Elton John, and Galactic, Two Loons' Looking for Landmarks is another pristine and intricate collection of soulful alternative rock. The songwriting, while melodic and memorable, also addresses a wide array of musical styles from ambient to funk. Scott's clear voice often sounds something like the Sundays' Harriet Wheeler on a serious Marvin Gaye jag. Complimenting this is Kochmer's guitar and keyboards, which have as much in common with Sam Prekop as the Cocteau Twins' Robin Guthrie. All in all, Landmarks pushes the boundaries of adult alternative pop and should please those looking for something better than the norm. ~ Matt Collar
Reviews of "Looking for Landmarks":"a cinematic, ethereal and sensual musical journey" -- Music Connection, Los Angeles"All that can be sensual, mysterious, and sexy about pop music is found in this album... expertly executed... flawless, organic production. And despite the album's smarts and complexity it's as accessible as anything on ...
