Personnel: Dave Evans (vocals, guitar, banjo); Gerald Evans Jr. (vocals, mandolin, fiddle); Tracy Evans (guitar); Matt Mauch (dobro); Clancy Fields (bass). Originally released on Neon Records. Recorded at Songbird Studio, Ashland, Kentucky. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Personnel: Dave Evans (vocals, guitar, banjo); Gerald Evans Jr. (tenor, baritone, mandolin, fiddle); Matt Mauch (dobro). Recording information: Songbird Studio, Ashland, KY. Photographer: Richard Boyd. Dave Evans has been playing bluegrass for over 30 years and shows no signs of slowing down. At the end of 2002, he released two new albums, High Waters and Just Look at Me Now. While both albums would have probably fit onto one disc, the different themes and changes in band personnel seem to warrant separate releases. Whereas the first album takes a closer look at life's hard times, the latter seems more upbeat, optimistic. Dobroist Matt Mauch also brings a new element to the band, adding a touch of the blues to pieces like "Hey Mama, Just Look at Me Now." Mauch's dobro is joined by a nice mix of mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and bouncy bass, providing the perfect backdrop for a catchy set of traditional bluegrass. There's a crack version of "Next Sunday, Darling, Is My Birthday," that's as lonesome and down-home as bluegrass gets. As with High Waters, Evans has written about half of the songs and they stand up well with the public dominion material. He also handles the lead vocals, injecting a touch of mountain soul into country-blues songs like "Here's Mud in Your Eye," while Gerald Evans Jr.'s tenor and baritone parts add a little something extra to each chorus. Dave Evans and the band deliver bang-up versions of classics like "I Still Miss Someone" and "The Old Crossroads," and even cut loose on an instrumental titled "Buffalo Chips." With High Water and Just Look at Me Now simultaneously available, Evans' fans will certainly look back on 2002 as a bumper crop year. ~ Ronnie D. Just Look At Me Now
$14.35 UFO: Andy Parker (drums); Paul Raymond, Phil Mogg, Vinnie Moore. Personnel: Phil Mogg (vocals); Paul Raymond (guitar, keyboards); Vinnie Moore (guitar). If the term "journeyman" could be applied to a band, it would be a good fit for UFO. Since 1969, the band has consistently delivered solid albums of no-nonsense hard rock, occasionally dipping into space rock, AOR, and metal along the way. THE VISITOR features original vocalist Phil Mogg and original drummer Andy Parker, along with guitar shredder legend Vinnie Moore (original bassist Pete Way was unable to participate due to health issues). True to form, the album is full of energetic, straight-ahead heavy rock. "Stranger in Town" is driven by a monster riff reminiscent ...

| | Robben Ford Soul On Ten CD (2009)
Just Look At Me Now
$15.29 Personnel: Robben Ford (vocals, guitar); Neal Evans (Hammond b-3 organ); Toss Panos (drums). Audio Mixer: John Paterno. Photographer: George Wells. Some of guitarist Robben Ford's weaknesses, such as song composition and vocals, are rectified or at least made less obvious, on this predominantly live release. On his fourth release for the Concord label, Ford is able to cherrypick better material from inconsistent albums, unearth choice covers, and generally broaden the music with his fiery playing. This, along with the natural energy generated by the stage environment, focuses attention on the guitarist's skills as a creative six-string bluesman who expands the narrow confines ...
