Japanese edition contains two bonus recordings: "Naive (with Beyonce Knowles featuring Da Brat)," & "Blinded."
With big sister Beyonce taking a break from Destiny's Child and kickin' it with Jay-Z, younger sib Solange emerged with her debut SOLO STAR following a high-profile turn hosting the very first MTV TRL tour. Despite having impressive name recognition, Beyonce's baby sister shrewdly enlisted the aid of high-profile collaborators including producers Timbaland (a Dawn Robinson-like "Get Together"), the Neptunes (the buoyant love note "Crush"), and the team of Rocwilder and former 4 Non-Blondes singer Linda Perry (a simmering "Wonderland"). Guest vocalists also abound and range from St. Lunatic Murphy Lee on "Thinkin' About You," (recycled from the SCOOBY-DOO soundtrack) to the hard-driving "Dance With You" featuring B2K.
Solange dispels notions of being a bubble-gum prop via two songs: the edgy "I Used To" with its multi-layered harmonies, and the funk-fueled "This Could Be Love," both of which were co-written and co-produced by this multi-talented teen. Her coup de grace is "Feelin' You Parts 1 & 2," on which she also racks up a writing credit. Taking a page from Missy Elliott's recent work, Solange incorporates plenty of sinewy Middle Eastern grooves and exotic percussion along with a dash of attitude from guests N.O.R.E. on Part 2.

| | Julie Collings Flotsam CD (2006)
Solo Star album
$9.89 Stunning new album ‘Flotsam’ Now available! Reviews Robin DenselowFriday November 30, 2007The Guardian Julie Collings is a DIY celebrity in the making. She is a 25-year-old singer-songwriter from Derby who was not only responsible for all the "instruments, voices and noises" on this impressively laid-back and thoughtful new set, but also recorded and produced it herself in her spare room. Her singing is light, breathy and personal, and she backs herself on a variety of instruments, dominated by acoustic guitar and a gentle wash of electronica. There's not a vast range in her work - most of the tracks are sad-edged and slow - but she is a confident and distinctive song-writer, as shown by the personal and reflective The Last Post, the drifting electronica of Don't, the easy pop charm of Simple Things, or the more gently gutsy, guitar-backed title track. It's a remarkable effort, considering the technical problems she must have faced, and she will now hopefully move out of that spare room to find more varied backing for her songs. A dash of fiddle, accordion or cello could work wondershttp://www.rock-n-reel.co.uk/ "JULIE COLLINGS, a Derby-based singer-songwriter debuts with Flotsam, a gently beguiling collection of eleven originals where her atmospheric vocals, tumbling guitar lines and occasional effects push things in the direction of acoustic acid folk. Sporadically it does float off into the ether in its dreamy ambience but her stylish delivery manages to prevent disaster." | | Tragically Hip World Container CD (2006)
Solo Star music CDs
$12.65 World Container, the Tragically Hip's eleventh studio LP, finds the Canadian quintet going for their biggest sound to date. Sure, their previous two albums -- 2002's In Violet Light and 2004's In Between Evolution -- found the band experimenting with a larger guitar-driven sound, but not in the same way that World Container reaches for the brightest sound imaginable. This ten-song set comes off with as much fever as the band's live shows, and frontman Gordon Downie finally captures his bona fide rock star appeal as a performer on record! Songs such as "Yer Not the Ocean" and "In View" retain that intoxicating energy that's made the Tragically Hip one of the decade's favorite concert draws. Working with veteran rock producer Bob Rock (Mötley Crüe, Metallica), was one smart move. As he did with Mötley Crüe's Dr. Feelgood album, Rock zeroed in on what makes the Tragically Hip such a vital rock band -- the dual guitar attack of Paul ...
