| | George Strait For The Last Time: Live From The Astrodome CD George Strait Discography of CDs
(5 Customer Reviews)
This live album marks a major event in more than one way. While any George Strait concert is an event in itself, this is the first live album the singer has released in over 25 years of recording. It's doubly significant as it marked the last night of the Houston Rodeo at the Astrodome, a four-decade tradition. Strait's name had become synonymous with the Rodeo by this time, so it was only naturally for him to play on its final night at the Dome, a pomp-and-circumstance affair that was even attended by President Bush.
The songs Strait performs with his kickin' live band run the gamut of his repertoire. There's the old-school Western swing of "Take Me Back to Tulsa," the New Traditionalist semi-modernism of "Write This Down," the honky-tonk humor of "Murder on Music Row," and much more, all delivered with Strait's rare combination of taste and charisma. Fittingly, things close out to much fanfare with the elegiac "The Cowboy Rides Away."
Recorded live at the Astrodome, Houston, Texas on March 3, 2002.

George Just Gets Better Nice album - love da man! Submitted by jvonsandyneck (Sandwich, MA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One of Best Live CD's of All Time This is a great CD. George loses nothing from studio to stage, in fact, in some ways, he is better. He chooses some of his greatest songs, like "Amarillo By Morning", which gives me chill bumps. One of the great class acts of country music of all time. For The Last Time: Live From The Astrodome album
$6.09 By the time he released his twelfth album Holding My Own in 1992, George Strait had been having hits for over a decade, a long time in any kind of pop music, so it should come as no surprise that when this hit the market it was surrounded by albums cut by singers inspired by Strait. As such, the title itself can be read as a little bit defensive, proving that Strait was indeed comparing well to such new stars as Garth Brooks, and there are other slight signs of Strait and producer Jimmy Bowen reacting to the shifting times. There's the return of a coat of gloss on such ...
| | George Strait Beyond The Blue Neon CD (1989)
For The Last Time: Live From The Astrodome CD music
$5.25 It could easily be argued that George Strait never made a bad album and they were all hits, but even among that remarkably consistent catalog, 1989's Beyond the Blue Neon stands apart from the pack, with half of its ten tracks reaching the country charts. Three of these topped the charts -- "Baby's Gotten Good at Goodbye," "What's Going on in Your World," and "Ace in the Hole" -- with "Overnight Success" peaking at eight and "Hollywood Squares," a novelty so sly and understated ...
