The original promo videos for "Nick The Stripper" and "Deep in the Woods" are included, along with some extremely rare television performances. Two complete gigs from the world famous Hacienda Club in Manchester complete the package. Pleasure Heads Must Burn
$31.25 This documentary of the Rolling Stones' 1969 US tour has become a legendary, harrowing symbol of the tragic demise of the "Peace and Love" era. After a successful tour across the United States, the Rolling Stones gave a free December concert at Altamont Speedway in California with the Grateful Dead (not seen performing), Ike and Tina Turner, Jefferson Airplane, and the Flying Burrito Brothers (all seen performing one song each). The poorly planned show was fraught with problems from its inception. The band unwisely selected the Hells Angels motorcycle club to provide security, and after the pre-existing chaos was fueled by very visible alcohol and drug abuse, the bikers resorted to violence to keep the stoned, restless, and often naked crowd in line. The result: dozens of injuries and the on-screen stabbing of a young African-American man (during "Sympathy for the Devil," no less) by one of the concert's "staff security."
In a manipulative but effective move, the Maysles brothers and Charlotte Zwerin filmed Mick Jagger in the editing room witnessing the on-camera ...
| | Bach Glenn Gould - A State Of Wonder - Goldberg Variations CDs (2002)
Pleasure Heads Must Burn
$13.45 This album was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Album Notes.
The career of the singular and idiosyncratic pianist Glenn Gould is probably best defined by his two recordings of Bach's Goldberg Variations. The first, his major-label debut recorded in 1955, was Gould's breakthrough. A brashly virtuosic performance, it blew the doors off the established notions of playing Bach and catapulted the pianist into superstardom. The second, recorded shortly before his death in 1982, finds a more deliberate Gould giving a poised, introspective reading of the work that brilliantly articulates its emotional intensity. A STATE OF WONDER offers these legendary recordings in ...
| | Nouvelle Vague CD (2005)
Pleasure Heads Must Burn
$11.05 At a time when seemingly every band with access to an analog synthesizer and a tube of hair gel was aping the New Wave sounds of the early 1980s, NOUVELLE VAGUE put a unique spin on the phenomenon. Their self-titled album is full of covers of classic tunes by the Cure, Modern English, Depeche Mode, et al. The striking twist, however, lies in the fact that all the songs are performed in old-school bossa nova mode, the lyrics delivered in a vintage ...
| | Sufjan Stevens Illinois CD (2005)
Pleasure Heads Must Burn
$12.19 Remarkably, in its intricate, gorgeously crafted surfaces, ILLINOIS lives up to its aims. In addition to its symphonic grandeur, the album also showcases Stevens's heartland folk, and some of the album's most shimmering moments are its most spare. "John Wayne Gacy, Jr.," for instance, is an absorbing narrative that features Stevens's sweet tenor couched by guitar, piano, and backing vocals. "Casimir Pulaski Day," similarly, rides a rootsy banjo and guitar groove while Stevens unfurls image-rich lyrics over a lilting melody. Witty, audacious, and moving, ILLINOIS manages to be spiritual, entertaining, and educational all at once, resulting in an utterly unique conceptual and musical statement.
The first new album since Seven Swans and the second in his 52 state series. Sufjan is one of the leading figures in the twisted folk revolution that includes Joanna Newsom, ...

Pleasure Heads Must Burn
$25.59 Canadian singer/songwriter Sarah Harmer presents a dynamic set list containing the tracks "I'm A Mountain," "Pendulums," "Experts and Politicians," and more.
Director Andy Keen filmed Harmer's 2005 "I Love The Escarpment" tour for this concert DVD release. Of the title song, Harmer says: "Escarpment Blues" tells the story of a current land-use conflict in Southern Ontario on the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. I grew up on the escarpment on the farm ...
