Take a minute to listen to VALLEY OF THE DAMNED, the debut album from power metal throwbacks Dragonforce. Now pick your jaw up off of the floor. Influenced in equal measure by Maiden and Mega Man, the band craft impossibly soaring, inspirational theme music to Dungeons and Dragons games yet to be played. Guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman simply astound as their Nintendo-honed fingers run up and down the fretboards with impossible velocity, and singer ZP Theart's Steve Perry wailing could shatter glass. The uninitiated may find the excesses on VALLEY OF THE DAMNED to be intolerably '80, and the lyrics about warriors and fantasy worlds are certainly the stuff of the terminally girlfriend-less. There's nothing funny, however, about the album's magnificent technique and deadly pop hooks. When they cut loose on dizzying songs like "Black Winter Night," who cares if it's cheesy? It shreds.
Dragonforce: ZP Theart (vocals); Herman Li (acoustic & electric guitars, background vocals); Sam Totman (guitars); Vadim Pruzhanov (piano, keyboards); Didier Almouzni (drums).
Additional personnel: Diccon Harper (bass).
Valley Of The Damned Music Dragonforce Valley Of The Damned Songs Valley Of The Damned Music Valley Of The Damned Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Good Melodic Release I have been listening to Dragonforce for about a year now and own all 3 of their studio albums, and I must say that this is probably their second best release. I personally felt that Sonic Firestorm was their best release as it contained the most songs on one album that I could listen to often without growing weary of them. As for Valley of the Damned, it is one awesome album. The songs on this album seem to be the most melodic of all their material while still maintaining that raw speed that Dragonforce is known for. As with the other 2 albums, this one still has some face-melting solos and soaring choruses that will leave you feeling uplifted and positive. While Dragonforce's material sounds very similar from album to album, their material is top-notch, so fans should not seek for a drastic change. Even though the band does not stray far from their patented sound, this album will leave you smiling all the same. The bestest This is the BEST BAND EVER!!!!!!!!! They're the kind of guys who will rock on-stage, and then party like there's no tomarrow. I think, that anyone interested in Rock, metal, or music at all, will like Dragonforce. Submitted by rbhaley (St.Louis, MO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excellence Dragonforce is an excellent newer group. A drummer that can go probably faster than I've ever heard before and a vocalist that knows what he's doing, Valley of the Damned is an awesome purchase. This group has amazing skill and I look forward to future CDs by one the best new metal bands. Submitted by just_some_cali_guy (Turlock, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
excellent stuff this is when the band was hungry, and really had the song writing talent in full force, the other 3 releases are all but clones of the same sound, this one is edgier and more riff filled than newer stuff that has now turned into bubble gum metal and the like. this album is great along with sonic firestorm, but the new 2 cds are absolute clones and its hard to differ the 2 of them apart other than the titles and song titles. this one is a good buy as is firestorm. | | Avantasia Metal Opera PT. 2 CD (2002)
Valley Of The Damned CD music
$10.45 Long-awaited second part of the chart breaker Avantasia by mastermind Tobia Sammet from Edguy and featuring members of Gamma Ray, Rhapsody, Virgin Steele, Within Temptation, Warrior, Helloween, Angra, Kiss & Stratovarious! This Century Media Records release includes 2 bonus tracks 'Chalice Of Agony' (edit version) & 'Avantasia' (single version) for a total of 12. 2002.
Eagerly anticipated by power metal audiences who embraced Tobias Sammet's first Avantasia project, the aptly titled The Metal Opera, Pt. 2 essentially offers more of the same, in sound, style, and personnel. Michael Kiske (ex-Helloween) gets credit for his appearance this time out, following his mystery cameo as "Ernie" on the first record, and a number of the featured vocalists from Pt. 1 reprise their characters on the second installment; new faces include Bob Catley (Magnum) and Oliver Hartmann (At Vance). The music is not a great leap forward; it's simply more state-of-the-art power metal, with the same catchy riffs, larger than life melodies, and complex, orchestration-heavy arrangements. Some might find it a bit less thrashy ...

Valley Of The Damned music CDs
$12.19 One term that is used quite a bit in jazz circles these days is "Young Lions," which refers to young jazz musicians whose work is a throwback to the straight-ahead acoustic jazz of the '40s, '50s, and '60s -- a "Young Lion" might have started recording in the '80s, '90s, or 2000s, but stylistically, they are quite committed to the jazz of previous generations. And in heavy metal, a similar mentality exists in the power metal revival movement; the '90s and early 2000s saw the rise of many young power metallers who look and sound like they belong in the '70s or '80s. England's Dragonforce is a perfect example; although ...

Valley Of The Damned CD music
$17.05 Dragonforce's music, once you're familiar with it, is unmistakable; their triumphant, orchestral power-metal--compressed to force every nuance up front--is impossible to ignore. INHUMAN RAMPAGE finds the band continuing their assault on metal audiences, with incredibly technical solos and almost Wagnerian melodic structures. ...
| | Borknagar Empiricism CD (2001)
Valley Of The Damned music CDs
$9.55 Five discs down the road, Borknagar seems less like a Norwegian supergroup side project and more like a cohesive band unit, and not just due to the group's relative longevity and prodigious output, but also because Empiricism is such a strong outing. Unlike the somewhat experimental and disjointed Quintessence disc that preceded it, Empiricism is a lot easier to appreciate from the first listen onward. Possibly the influx of new blood spearheaded Oystein G. Brun, the only original member left, to take this more straightforward direction; wholly one third of Borknagar's lineup is new to the band. Vocalist Vintersorg, of the band of the same name, replaced I.C.S. Vortex so he could concentrate on Dimmu Borgir. Tyr, a session member of Satyricon, and Emperor, who replaced Simen Hestnaes, also make their debut appearances with the group on this disc. Regardless of who is responsible, Empiricism is a monster. The production is much better this time out and memorable moments abound, such as the controlled chaos of "Liberated" and the Mercyful Fate-like intro riff to "Gods of My World." Complexities do pop up, such as the overall influx of piano ...
| | In Flames Soundtrack To Your Escape CD (2004) Deluxe Edition
Valley Of The Damned songs
$13.85 Sweden's metal scene consistently breathes new life into a style that had long since hit a wall in many other territories. Among the most provocative and original of these acts is In Flames. The brainchild of vocalist Anders Friden and guitarist Jesper Stromblad, In Flames began in 1990, crafting a unique direction and, over time, solidifying a lineup of formidable instrumentalists, including longtime member Bjorn Gelotte (who moved from drums to guitar since joining the group).
On SOUNDTRACK TO YOUR ESCAPE, In Flames relentlessly pushes stylistic barriers, incorporating goth, classic thrash, and death-metal elements, resulting in a distinctive blend. The heavy ballad "Evil in a Closet" ...
