This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ David Visan.
The mystique of Paris's trendy Buddha-Bar exists largely due to its enthralling background music, as exemplified by the venue's highly successful series of compilations. The two discs of this fifth installment are filled with a diverse selection of artists from around the world. The first disc is a serene session that begins with the soft guitar, piano music, and female vocals of "Nie Kantshaietsa." Then Indian and Middle-Eastern elements and slow dance beats are introduced, guiding the listener further into audio bliss. By the second disc, the pace has picked up considerably, and there are ecstatic rhythms, wild electronic concoctions, and unusual instruments scattered throughout tracks such as "Just You & I" by dZihan & Kamien, "Egyptian Disco" by DJ Disse, and "Blue" by Latour. As always, this BUDDHA-BAR collection delivers a sensuous and exotic outing of international music.

While only serious film buffs are likely to recall Hugh Hudson's role as the director of the Oscar-winning CHARIOTS OF FIRE, the Greek composer Vangelis became, and remained, a household name with his soundtrack for the 1981 film. At the time, the theme song was parodied as being excessively saccharin.
Indeed, with titles such as "Five Rings" and "100 Metres," the album wears its Olympian heart on its sleeve. Nonetheless, CHARIOTS OF FIRE is often a brooding work, and if the prevailing memory of this album is one of slow-motion runners and heady triumph, Vangelis's synthesizer work often conveys a sense of isolation and lost glory.

Duster is made up of two members, C. Amber and E. Parton, with occasional help from their friends on drums and recording duties. Stratosphere is mainly recorded at their home on four track. At times, they sound like Pavement and other times like Seely with higher pitched male vocals. Stratosphere demonstrates their guitar-based focus, riding on the flow of duel picking guitar melodies. With many guitars switching dynamic roles and riding on tunings, Duster sounds a bit like early Sonic Youth.
