It will always be a mystery how a grown man can spend his life wearing a school tie and short pants ... Full Descriptionand receive adulation from the heavy metal fraternity. HM followers do not tolerate a cissy, yet the hugely talented Angus Young has become something of a hero. His riff-laden fills, combined with the tough vocals of the late Bon Scott, made AC/DC one of the genre's all-time leading lights. Bordering on the lighter side of metal, songs such as 'Love Hungry Man', 'Touch Too Much' and the title track will always delight.

Recording information: 1979.Q (12/94, p.157) - 3 Stars - Good - "...a 41-minute jackhammer groove that, years later, would still be obsessing everyone from Run DMC to Killing Joke. Rick Rubin's Def American label was probably blueprinted the minute he heard 'Girls Got Rhythm'..." Mojo (Publisher) (12/00, p.84) - "...By retaining their simplicity and adding a bit of polish, 'Mutt' Lange produced their first million-seller, its air-punching title track quickly becoming a staple at teenagers' booze-fuelled parties on both sides of the Atlantic..." Wow..just wow..this album is one of the finest efforts by one of the most profound Hard Rock acts of all time. Any fan of post-Bon Scott AC/DC should give this record a spin, tracks like "Girls Got Rhythm," "Beating Around the Bush," and "Love Hungry Man" will make any Brian Johnson fan realize who is the superior front man. Surely their best album ever. I know some will disagree with Mutt Lange's approach with AC/DC, but to me he clearly brought to light their best. Here he does what Vanda/Young couldn't figure out with the sound on Powerage.I'm always torn between Let there be rock or Highway to hell as my fave. Nice. I never really liked AC/DC, but this album changed everything. I love every song on it, especially Night Prowler. I'll have that on repeat for hours. It's amazing! Submitted by N.Stalker13 (Night) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A classic Highway to Hell, along with Let There be Rock re the very best from AC/DC. Not to take anything away from the Johnson era.
I remember when this came out in late summer 79 and partying hard to it. I remember soing the same later to Back in Black, but it just wasn't the same. This album contains some great songs. Bon was quite a lyricist. Submitted by Darryl (Pensacola, FL & Fulton, MO) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Bon's last stand The Bon Scott years were AC/DCs finest moments and this album says 'goodbye' as he cruises down the 'highway to hell'. It's a phenomenally good album, full of adrenalin pumping ballsy rock that's always synonymous with AC/DCs no-bull style. We salute you, Bon! The 2003 edition of HIGH VOLTAGE includes liner notes by Murray Engelheart.
HIGH VOLTAGE was the first chance America had to glimpse the raw power of Australia's best hard rock outfit. From their earliest days, lead guitarist Angus Young, a spastic dwarf-like riff-monger who wore nothing but traditional schoolboy attire, led this band of hooligans with gleeful perversity and balls-out ambition. The group's intent is perfectly clear from the disc's opening power chords: to distill rock and mutate the blues down to its barest essentials ...

Recorded in 1976. Originally released as Atlantic (16033). Includes liner notes by David Wild.
Although it wasn't released stateside until '81, DIRTY DEEDS DONE DIRT CHEAP is an Australian compilation recorded in the mid-70's. By the time of its U.S. release, singer Bon Scott had already died of alcohol poisoning and the band had emerged from the tragedy with new singer Brian Johnson and the stunning BACK IN BLACK. This album then, perhaps inadvertently, serves as an epitaph for the late, tattoo-emblazoned singer. And there is no more fitting eulogy than the title track, which captures ...

With AC/DC's third release, POWERAGE, the band was dispensing even heftier ammo from their hook-laden cartridge belt. With the rock-steady rhythm section pounding out 4/4 beats as if it were overtaking a small country, guitarists (and brothers) Angus and Malcolm Young trade towering riffs that belie their pint-sized physical stature. The real change on POWERAGE is a noted improvement in songwriting skill. The six-minute "Down Payment Blues" actually has a sense of restraint and building tension, as opposed to the band's usual hit-the-ground running approach.
"Sin City," an ode to Las Vegas, features ...

If possible, AC/DC actually made their sound denser on its sophomore effort, LET THERE BE ROCK. A darker album than its predecessor, HIGH VOLTAGE, this album leans further towards AC/DC's twisted extension in the blues tradition. Which is not to say that the band relented from its three-chord power riffing for one millisecond. The presence of Angus Young's mighty Gibson SG looms over the album like a sheet of lead on a windless day. What has changed is the inclusion of longer songs like "Go Down," "Dog Eat Dog," and the floor rattling "Let There be Rock," all of which feature ripping interplay between Bon Scott's perverse howl and Young's straight for the throat guitar lines.
Where others hint at hormone-driven ...

$13.65 An album steeped in New York City rock history, 2005's LITTLE FUGITIVE finds singer/songwriter Amy Rigby (the Shams/Last Round Up) waxing nostalgic about the Ramones (the buoyant "Dancing with Joey Ramone") and collaborating with Patti Smith Group's Lenny Kaye (on his own melancholy tune "The Things We Leave Behind"). As always, Rigby's charmingly off-key voice carries these never-too-polished narratives, which include the witty "Needy Men" and "Girls Got It Bad."
Renowned songwriter Amy Rigby's upcoming fifth album, Little Fugitive (August 23 rd on Signature Sounds), finds the singer, who began her solo career as the Mod Housewife, bringing it all back home. Hailed for her keen eye and sharp wit in tracing the vagaries and victories of modern romance, her new Signature Sounds release finds Rigby promising "I Don't Want To Talk About Love No ...
