Apparently hoping to reverse the trend, with SURRENDER TO LOVE Kindred The Family Soul delivers what may be the first modern mainstream album to so fully, genuinely. and unpretentiously embrace the concept of hearth, home and family. Using a spare, easy-flowing old school soul duet template of the type employed to great effect by Gaye/Terrel, Flack/Hathaway and Labelle/Womack, Aja Graydon and Fatin Dantzler sound less like a revival act than a classic thrift-shop find.
Lest one think that SURRENDER TO LOVE is a warm-and-fuzzy Christian-pop style affirmation of 7th HEAVEN-esque plastic perfection, Kindred The Family Soul isn't afraid to drag out the dirty laundry. Few albums celebrate and examine the completely unglamorous minutiae of daily life in such an affecting and creative manner. An amazingly substantive and accomplished debut, the disc serves as a challenge to all other artists to abandon the Hollywood banalities and get down to the nitty-gritty of making art.

The true hearts of dedicated and extremely talented and dedicated musicians come to life in this collection of grooves so smoldering and sensual that even my 2 cats stop being who they are to feel the vibes. For real...they listen and move alongg with the heady rhythms and smooth vocals. i feel the rhythm of life in this collection....so rare today in the age of no talent noise makers who call themselves musicians!!

Kindred's Album Finally Released
I have long been a fan of this group as I have seen them in concert twice. I was glad to finally get a release date for their cd. They make beautiful music together and are part of the burgeoning Philly soul scene. I am a fellow Philadelphian and have seen several acts perform at Black Lily. Kindred's music is soulful and introspective and worth every dollar.

I was born May 28th, 1979 in Denver Colorado. At age 3, I was removed from my home due to physical and sexual abuse from my father. The Department of Social Services placed 2 of my siblings as well as myself into foster care. At tha age of 7, I was adopted (along with my brother and sister) into a family of 9. From tha start I was labeled as anti-social, uncontrollable, and unpredictable. A child that could go from lovable to pit-bull in a matter of moments. One thing I had to my advantage was my undying willpower to accomplish anything I put my mind to. By the age of ten I was waist deep in crimes that ranged from schoolyard fistfights to burglary. From smoking pot ta burning bullets in bondfires. At age 12, I was arrested for breaking and entering into the elementary school. During the break in my wrist was cut on the window and blood gushed everywhere. After a trip to the emergency room and a visit from the police, I pled guilty in court. From then on my criminal activity and conflicts in the community escalated. Charges of felony menacing, criminal mischeif, criminal trespass, possession of deadly weapons, and theft were cause for out of home placement. I was hospitalized at Bethesda Mental Health and Cleo Wallace, placed in Denver Childrens Home, did time in El Pueblo Boys Ranch, Work Camp, Boot Camp, the Jacob Center in Lake County and Summit County, Summit County Jail, Dade County Jail, Mount View Detention Center, and the Community Responsibility ...
