"Fallen" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
In the six years between Sarah McLachlan's 1997 outing, SURFACING, and 2003's AFTERGLOW, much happened to the Lilith Fair founder on both personal and global levels. McLachlan's daughter India was born months after the death of her mother, and, of course, there were the ripple effects of the 2001 terrorist attacks. All are addressed throughout these 10 songs, which are ensconced in the ethereal swaddling of subtle piano, acoustic guitars, and light strings.
At the heart of this Canadian chanteuse's often melancholy observations is a unwavering resiliency, whether she's finding her way through 9/11's aftereffects in "World on Fire" or seeking solace in the embrace of drummer and significant other Ashwin Sood on "Push." McLachlan also sings of unhealthy relationships, where she finds fault in both herself ("Stupid") and a fictional lover ("Perfect Girl"). Gently rendered, introspective, and heartfelt, AFTERGLOW reaffirms that Sarah McLachlan's mastery of both word and song didn't miss a step, despite a hiatus that equals a lifetime in the world of pop.
Trying to describe what I do is difficult, but the music itself is easy to understand so I recommend heading there next (or first.
) The songs I write are for getting in touch with feelings, making sense of life, and getting through tough or confusing situations. My music is my life, it's the things inside my head and heart. I have been writing music and songs for some time now; since the seventh grade, in fact. I had piano lessons for a while when I was little, but I really depend on sound (not knowledge, haha) when I write. My music was a secret between me and a friend until 2004, but not so anymore, which is great. I'm happy to be sharing some of myself with the world. I appreciate your interest and hope you take a moment to check out the sound/website. Thanks.

Afterglow offers a comfortable return of Sarah McLachlan Sarah McLachlan returns from a 6 year hiatus with a new album that brings back the thought provoking and angelic voice that characterizes McLachlan. The album is aptly named, because after listening to this new release, I did have a content glow. It certainly is a Sarah album, but some small changes mark the artistic growth--it's hard to say it's her best album, but it certainly ranks right up along with the rest of them. "At last she comes back" I have been waiting for so long for sarah mclachlan to come out with a new cd and she finally did. She is my all time favorite artist ever. I really do think though that it's not her best work. Especially since we all know what shes capable of with albums like surfacing and fumbling but yet its still good. She did however come back with a new fresh sound and delivered some really great songs. The ones that stand out the most are: Fallen, Drifting, and Answer, they seem to talk to u on a personnal level. And any music that she makes is always worth buying. =) Submitted by Dreams_come_true_1999 (Miami, FL. /USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
Major Disappointment After the brilliance of Surfacing, this is a major disappointment. Apart from Fallen, which I have to say is brilliant, this is bland, generic, boring, put-you-to-sleep music. Try again, please Sarah! Go back to Surfacing... Submitted by michael.dobrofsky (Los Angeles, CA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
Good Artist Great Voice Well after reading the comments all I can say is most get it and some don't. Of course that's the way it is with what they call music today (if you call most of the other stuff music). Sarah is very captivating in this album and really portrays herself as a true artist expressing emotion with her movements and wonderful voice. Of course, her band isn't so bad either; displaying some brilliant talents. The mix produces her best album. Submitted by wenelken (Houston, TX) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
