| | Aaliyah I Care 4 You CD Aaliyah Discography of CDs
(7 Customer Reviews)
Recorded in New York, New York, Los Angeles, California, and Chicago, Illinois.
This collection of tunes by the late R&B siren Aaliyah serves double duty as a greatest hits package and a rarities compendium. While the first half of the disc reaches back to Aaliyah's previous albums and snags some of their most memorable songs ("One in a Million," the title track, etc.) the second half consists of previously unreleased material that admirably extends the legacy of a talented young artist whose bright flame was snuffed out far too early. Hearing the old songs again, it's striking how successfully Aaliyah's sensual but feather-light voice interacts with Timbaland's always-inventive production. On the new tracks, the arrangements are a bit more straightforward and predictable (no Timbaland, you see), but Aaliyah's strong vocal presence still rides atop each one with equal amounts of delicacy and authority.

I Care 4 You
$38.65 It's telling that DO WHAT YOU WANT TO BE WHAT YOU ARE, Sony/Legacy's comprehensive, career-spanning Daryl Hall and John Oates box set, takes its title from a moderately successful mid-'70s single from the duo, written and recorded just as the group was hitting their creative stride. The slow Philly groove of "Do What You Want Be Who You Are" may have hearkened back to the duo's soul roots, side-stepping some of the outré pop experiments they had done just two years earlier on War Babies, but Hall & Oates took the title's sentiment to heart, blurring boundaries between rock, pop, ...

| | Carolyn Franklin Sister Soul: The Best Of The Rca Years 1969-1976 CD (2006) (Import) United Kingdom
I Care 4 You
$16.65 Like Erma Franklin, Carolyn Franklin was bound to be overshadowed by her sister Aretha Franklin, although she was a respectable soul singer (and songwriter) in her own right. While she wasn't well known to the public (even less so than Erma was), she did record fairly often for RCA, with the 22 songs on Sister Soul: The Best of the RCA Years 1969-1976 being drawn from the four albums and seven singles she cut for the label. Frankly, Carolyn's output was the least distinguished of the three sisters; Erma wasn't a major artist either, but did come up with at least one recognized classic, "Piece of My Heart," as well as some other solid soul records. Carolyn's voice and material ...
