Uncut (5/03, p.100) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Bern's caustic observation, musical agility and literate insights take hold on this full-length album....He often recalls Costello at his early, molten peak..." Dirty Linen (8/03, p.53) - "...The melodies are catchy. The lyrics are confessional, but also wry and witty. The playing is superb. And there's that in-your-face attitude, too..." | | Richard Thompson Old Kit Bag CDs (2003) Bonus Disc
Fleeting Days
$13.89 The first 35,000 copies sold included a limited edition bonus CD, including tracks from Richard Thompson's 1000 YEARS OF POPULAR MUSIC show and footage from his BBC documentary.
Finding refuge in the arms of indie label Cooking Vinyl after years of wandering the deserts of the major labels, Richard Thompson strips his band down considerably in conjuring up the rich material that graces THE OLD KIT BAG. Longtime Thompson fans will be pleased to find the man rocking along quite convincingly, whether its with the steady build of tension found in the wiry opener "Gethsemane," the chiming and chugging "I'll Tag Along," or the rollicking chant "Jealous Words," (featuring Linda-like accompaniment by background vocalist Judith Owen.)
The (former?) Muslim guitar wizard takes a swipe at hardcore Islamic fundamentalism ("Outside of the Inside"), shines brightly with the positively poppy "She Said It Was Destiny," and makes like a Limey lounge singer with "I've Got No Right to Have It At All." ...
| | Warren Zevon Wind CD (2003)
Fleeting Days
$15.09 THE WIND won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. "Keep Me in Your Heart" was nominated for Song Of The Year and for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. "Disorder in the House" won for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and was also nominated for Best Rock Song.
With the specter of a terminal lung cancer diagnosis hanging over his head, Warren Zevon responded by rallying to make THE WIND, an album that found him working with longtime collaborator and friend Jorge Calderon, shortly after getting the news. The result is a tight group of 11 songs wrapped up in a year, despite a diagnosis that only gave Zevon three months to live. Along the way, plenty of famous names--both friends and fans--pitched in, including Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne, Dwight Yoakam and Don Henley. Allusions to his situation are naturally sprinkled throughout, whether it's partying in the face of doom ("The Rest of the Night"), using a self-penned blues song to look back with no regrets ("Rub Me Raw"), or pledging his eternal love ("El Amor De Mi Vida"). Even Zevon's cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," avoids the pitfall of ...
| | Steve Earle Revolution Starts Now CD (2004)
Fleeting Days
$14.55 Steve Earle is widely known as a tireless political activist who's not afraid to use his music to further the causes for which he fights. In 2004, America was in dire need of forward-looking activism, and Earle responded with THE REVOLUTION STARTS NOW. The album was written and recorded quickly in order for Earle to get his two cents in before the Presidential election, and it turned out to be both his most overtly ...
| | Lucinda Williams Live @ The Fillmore West CDs (2005) Digipak
Fleeting Days
$14.35 Never one to tread the expected path, Lucinda Williams followed her big breakthrough album, CAR WHEELS ON A GRAVEL ROAD, with a pair of low-key records full of sad, quiet, fragile songs (interrupted by the occasional barn-burner). LIVE @ THE FILLMORE concentrates heavily on those latter two releases, unleashing all the intense, burning emotions that lay at their core, ...
| | John Hiatt Master Of Disaster CD (2005)
Fleeting Days
$13.35 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
More than 30 years into his recording career, John Hiatt is as vital as ever on MASTER OF DISASTER, and at his most soulful since his critically feted BRING THE FAMILY/SLOW TURNING period. Not only are his singing and material full of grit and emotional impact, there's a vintage Atlantic soul flavor to some of the tunes here that conjures up images of Bob Dylan and Otis Redding trading songs in the back room ...

| | Flaming Lips Zaireeka CDs (1997) Limited Edition
Fleeting Days
$17.29 ZAIREEKA is a 4-CD limited edition release. Each CD contains the same 8 compositions intended for simultaneous playback on up to 4 CD players.
It would be an understatement to say that ZAIREEKA, the four-disc, experimental opus from Oklahoma City's resident post-punk geniuses the Flaming Lips, is not your run-of-the-mill release. Each disc has a partial mix of the same eight songs, so the only way to hear the album as intended is by using four different cd-players at once. Yet, as Lips mastermind Wayne Coyne hints at in the liner notes, that makes ZAIREEKA an inherently social event--invite some friends, tell 'em to bring extra boomboxes.
As for ZAIREEKA's music, it is an ambitious extension of the kind of psyche-noise-pop that the Flaming ...
| | Jorma Kaukonen Quah CD (1974) Bonus Track; Remastered
Fleeting Days
$6.79 By 1974, Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen had already started on his own path with his blues-rock side project, Hot Tuna, but with the Airplane's final flight behind him, he moved definitively beyond electrified psychedelic rock with his first solo album, QUAH. Most of the album is just Jorma and his acoustic guitar, and while this sparse format is ostensibly similar to some of the later Hot Tuna releases, it focuses much more on folk-tinged singer-songwriter balladry than ...
