Originally lumped in with the faceless rap-rock hordes that stormed the charts in the wake of Korn and Limp Bizkit's late-'90s commercial success, Nothingface distinguished itself early on with a thoughtful, fist-tight, precision-ground style of nu-metal, unafraid to temper death-metal inspired shrieking with bits of actual melody and catchy hooks. On SKELETONS the group further explores both sides of its split personality. Though the band still convincingly rips out some great Pantera/Mudvayne-esque larynx-shredding fare, it really shines on the vocal harmony-laden alternative rock-sounding tracks, which often have more in common with Incubus or Deep Elm Records-style emo bands than with the combo's more doom & gloom-oriented contemporaries.
Skeletons is the first standout metal record of the new century and will serve as the blueprint for the next wave of hard music. Nothingface is simply one of the best bands in metal today. 13 tracks. TVT Records. 2003.
Recorded at The Armoury Studios, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Nothingface: Matthew Holt (vocals); Tom Maxwell (guitar); Bill Gaal (keyboards, bass); Sickles (drums).
Nothingface Skeletons Songs Skeletons Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Not what I had expected I loved Nothingface's first 3 albums, but the latest one was not what I expected. It sounds nothing like what they had put out before....just not as hardcore. Maybe they were just trying some new stuff out, but it's not really my taste. I dunno, maybe it'll grow on me. best band ever I think that every cd Nothingface has put out tops the one before it. So I think that if you like Heavy music then you really need to check out this band they have the perfect combination of melody and thrash example the song Incarnadine and Murder is Masturbation those two songs are a perfect example of how great this band is at mixing the two genres. And if your more into softer music you will love songs like Patricide,In Avernus, and Ether. But if you dont like this cd because it is not heavy enough I think you should try it again or another one of their cds because it is great stuff.

Nothingface's swan song proves to be their best I don't mean to blaspheme by saying that "An Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity" isn't the best Nothingface album, but I truly believe that "Skeletons" shows the band in its most mature form. Sadly, it seems that "Skeletons" is indeed Nothingface's swan song, and I do wish Matt Holt and the gang the best of luck in whatever new bands they may find themselves in. Anyway, on to the review. "Skeletons" showcases Nothingface juxtaposing hard-as-nails tracks with much softer, more radio-friendly songs. The combination works well in my opinion, and DOES NOT indicate that Nothingface are simply trying to win over teeny-boppers. The first song "Machination" is a very experimental song, with tempo changes galore. It's actually a very interesting song to listen to, and it eventually won me over. But track 2 ("Beneath") was what really proselytized me into becoming a Nothingface fan. Singer Matt Holt shows he can sing cleanly with the best of them and can actually write interesting (though cryptic) lyrics (e.g., "Telling time is hard when it rewinds/Painting circles around your crimes ... No traces, no picture, no sacred glowing scriptures. So control your chaos/Relax and you can save us."). The drum intro into "Beneath" is also very memorable. It's just beyond me why they didn't release "Beneath" as a single, though the single they did release ("Ether") is a very good song in its own right. "Ether" discusses eloquently Holt's anger at the U.S. government for invading Iraq. "We came to take control. We came to sell you freedom. We came to burn you down. We came to brainwash children." Holt sings, denouncing the Bush cartel with rightful ire. Other songs that stand out are the acoustic-driven "Patricide" (don't worry, there ARE still good heavy-metal riffs present in "Patricide"), the pop-metal "Scission" (which reminds a Nothingface aficionado like myself of "Dead Like Me" without sounding like a carbon copy), and "Murder Is Masturbation," where Holt shows he can still scream as he proclaims with lividity that he wants to kill some unnamed mother[bleep]er. Still, out of Nothingface's four albums, Skeletons seems definitely the most mature, mostly on account of the lyrics. Holt embarks on lyrical tirades against the imperialistic U.S. government, the Pope who looked the other way as certain priests of his were molesting children, and President Bush especially, whom Holt calls a "pinnacle of ignorance" and "useless." Matt Groening sure would appreciate that! It's just that Holt seems much more thoughtful in his tirades than he previously did. Moreover, the band as musicians continue to improve as well. Newcomer drummer Tommy Sickles shows that he's just as good as Chris Houck, if not better. Nothingface also experiment with a variety of different sound approaches, such as adding urgent-sounding acoustic guitars innovatively into "In Avernus" to make it thrice as interesting. I'm not saying that Nothingface are pioneers when they use certain sounds, they just know how to use them quite well! And that's what make Nothingface such a great (but unheralded) band: they do what they do exceptionally well. It's just a shame that "Skeletons" had to mark their disbandment (no pun intended). excellent cd i think that when people say that this cd isnt as hardcore i have to disagree if u really listen to the lyrics they have a lot more meaning then all of their previous cds each song was a perfect combination of brute force and deep insightful thought plus every song sounds awsome plus all of them are a lot more catchier then in previous cds its a shame the bands breaking up his is there final cd and its one of their greatest they went out in a flame of glory with this one Submitted by jeff (portland, ct, usa) Was This Review Helpful? Skeletons music CDs
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."

$18.39 RESCUE ME is the acclaimed 8 track release from guitar virtuoso Roy Buchanan.
Rescue Me (1975) was the final Roy Buchanan (guitar) studio album under his deal with Polydor Records. But, a loophole allowed the company control of his catalog outside of North America. Thus, a similar eight-song collection that bears the moniker In the Beginning (1974) is the U.S. equivalent. Buchanan's inimitable manipulation of the strings and equally definitive skills as an interpretive voice are without question the most cohesive factor on this otherwise limiting affair. In addition to the Tower of Power horns, Buchanan is joined by Neil ...
