In the beginning there was metal and it was heavy. In the mid-'80s an underground sub-genre made a name for itself based as much on satanic imagery as on extreme music, with bands like Bathory and Mayhem. Enter England's Cradle of Filth, who ... Full Descriptiontook black metal to new heights in the '90s. DAMNATION AND A DAY finds the band at the artistic pinnacle of its controversial career, with the unprecedented-for-the-genre support of Sony firmly behind them.
Forged with fire and brimstone, DAMNATION tells the biblical tale of temptation ("Serpent Tongue") and the revenge of outcasts ("Carrion"), a theme present in many Cradle albums, be the subjects cast out of society or heaven. Dani Filth's multifaceted whisper-to-a-scream vocals are operatic in scope and anguished with pain. Not unlike a more evil manifestation of Iron Maiden, double-time melodic riffs gallop and trample the senses. Brass-heavy orchestral interludes like a Verdi requiem and Karloff-esque spoken passages lend a horror-film quality. Goth ("Thank God For The Suffering") and Egyptian ("Doberman Pharaoh") vibes add depth and texture. DAMNATION is an all-out aural assault that will force you to take notice.
Ninth studio album & first for Sony Music. 17 tracks of furious black metal. 2003.
Cradle Of Filth: Dani Filth (vocals); Martin Powell (guitar, keyboards); Paul Allender (guitar); Dave Pybus (bass); Adrian Erlandsson (drums).

I normally don't like death metal bands, but I love this cd!!!!! The first time i ever heard any of their music was the Babalon A.D. music video.
And i couldn't get that song out of my head. Every song on this cd is great long but great. Buy Rammstein too their the best!!! Submitted by a reviewer (Peshastin WA USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Serpent Tongued Devils Are Back In The Headlines. Out with the old and in with the new. I was sorry to hear of Robin's and Gian's departures, but this new lineup proves to be the strongest yet. Out of their nine albums this has quickly became my favorite album, and with songs like Serpent Tongue, Babylon A.D., Better To Reign In Hell, etc.. anyone can understand why Cradle of Filth is the best black metal band of all time. It will be a very long time before another band will be able to knock them off of their pedastal. Submitted by a reviewer (Tallahassee, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Fantastic I first heard this when my daughter played it and the vocals blew me away, the drumming is also great. I prefer the CDs like Damnation and A Day but can listen to it non stop - I find its great when I am working as it blocks out all distractions.
I am probably one of their older fans. but I don't care! I wish I had discovered them when they started. Submitted by Marion (Somerset UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Astounding This album alone pleases me in every musical way that I find enjoyable, along with every other Cradle of Filth album in existance.
Great quiality in vocals, guitars, drums, bass, and a great role that makes this album great, is the backing vocals of Sara Jezabel Deva. In this album, Cradle of Filth cracks down on the play of the bass, and guitar, by giving us many heavy, brutal riffs and crunches throughout the whole album.
Which is needless to say, a suitible choice for those of you who listen to brutal metal, such as Sepultura. This album is also accompanied by a whole orchestra, and choir. And throughout the whole entire album, you get a mix of the two best sounds -- Metal, and symphony. That together, gives us the greatest sound combination there is. Purists won't call it black metal, but if one has to choose a sub-genre it'll do. The only other thing you can accurately call it is extreme metal. With DEATH CULT ARMAGEDDON, the Norway based Dimmu Borgir has synthesized the last 20 years of heavy music into one very coherent and terrifying album. Along with Emperor and Cradle of Filth, they have risen to the top of their own dark niche.
