Original Artist Hit List
$38.09 THE MASTER (1961-1984) features an 89-song overview of Marvin Gaye's career, including 18 previously unreleased tracks as well as various rarities. The package contains a 68-page booklet with photos.
Stevie Wonder is an unarguable genius. That allowed, a credible case can still be made that the late Marvin Gaye was, pound for pound, the single most talented artist to have come to prominence at Motown Records in the '60s. Gaye, in fact, could do it all. He was a formidable songwriter, a supremely funky studio drummer, a highly charismatic performer, and, of course, an amazingly expressive singer, equally at home with the R&B and soul numbers that made his name as with the earlier pop standards he loved equally.
This four-CD set is the definitive Marvin Gaye anthology, providing a fully rounded overview of his career, from the great early blues and gospel based hits to the sensual crooning of his final days and everything in between. THE MASTER is also fleshed out with 18 revelatory unreleased tracks, both studio and live (trust us: you have to hear his in-concert version of "The Star Spangled Banner" to believe it).
Includes liner notes by David Ritz.
Personnel includes: Marvin Gaye (vocals, keyboards, drums, percussion); Tammi Terrell, Diana Ross, ...

| | Slaughterhouse CD (2009)
Original Artist Hit List
$14.29 Something of a halfway house for label-troubled rappers, Slaughterhouse brings together four rappers who have been often caught up in red tape. The slick 2009 debut is ample reminder of the deep talents of Joe Budden, Royce Da 5'9", Crooked I, and Joell Ortiz (particularly the uniquely drawling Budden). The lines are occasionally silly, ...

| | Best Of Sade CD (1994)
Original Artist Hit List
$9.75 Digitally remastered by Tom Coyne (Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
Nigerian vocalist Sade Adu has carved out a cosmpolitan niche for herself over the past decade, gathering together elements of cool jazz, samba, reggae, funk and pop all under the pastoral umbrella of her suede-and-velvet voice. A pop stylist with a musical universe all her own, Sade has endured and matured over the past decade, seemingly unaffected by changes in taste and fashion--a movement unto herself.
As her most recent single (Percy Mayfield's "Please Send Me Someone To Love" from the PHILADELPHIA soundtrack) illustrates, Sade's coy caressing voice speaks more of commitment and trust, of relationships in flux ("Nothing Can Come Between Us") than of the heat of the moment: from the the coy duplicity of "Smooth Operator" to the positive reinforcement of "The Sweetest Taboo" and the sweet ambiguities of "Love Is Stronger Than Pride."
Outside of Sade's mentholated vocals, it is the serene, understated quality of her arrangements that lend THE BEST OF SADE its classic touch of elegance. Delicate washes of percussion and acoustic guitar, the coiled intensity of Stewart Matthewman's tenor saxophone counterpoint, Andrew Hale's suave, elusive keyboard colorations, and Paul S. Denman's discretely dancing bass provide a maximum of smoke, but precious ...
