| | Emmylou Harris Angel Band CD (1987)
Best Of Russ Taff
$10.89 On this 1987 recording, Emmylou Harris focuses on country ballads with a Christian bent. Many traditional songs arranged by Harris are heard here, including "If I Be Lifted Up," "Bright Morning Stars," "We Shall Rise," "Drifting Too Far," and the title track, "Angel Band." Songs by Paul Kennerly and Ralph and Carter Stanley are also featured.
Lyrically, the songs on ANGEL BAND revolve around the pursuit of redemption, forgiveness, and joy in a world of heartbreak and loss. Musically, the group, consisting of country greats Vince Gill, Jerry Douglas, and Mark O'Connor among others, is sensitive, subtle and melodically compelling. ...
| | Casting Crowns Lifesong CD (2005)
Best Of Russ Taff
$14.95 CCM group Casting Crowns build on the powerful indie-rock sound of their first album with this 2005 follow-up. Like their self-titled debut, LIFESONG is full of declarations of Christian faith set to music that would sound right at home on MTV and mainstream rock radio. LIFESONG widens Casting Crowns' thematic palette, by mixing in attacks on hypocrisy ("Stained Glass ...

| | Bishop Eddie L Long Spirit & Truth CD (2004) Enhanced CD
Best Of Russ Taff
$15.05 Bishop Eddie L. Long/New Birth Total Praise Choir: Kevin Bond, Patricia Allen, Simone Bain, Nikki Bonner, Linda McKinnie (vocals).
Times may change, and fashions may come and go, but Christianity will always have its music, be it chants, hymns, Christian rock, or good old-fashioned gospel. A contemporary R&B-influenced form of the latter is convincingly presented here by relative newcomers, the Georgia-based Bishop Eddie L. Long and his New Birth Total Praise Choir, whose mission is, as their name implies, to sweep away all doubt and sorrow with full-throated force.
You can't encounter SPIRIT & TRUTH without being moved by the ensemble's passionate sincerity, over the course of a set that moves from the hypnotically percussive "Christ in Me," through the downbeat "Thank You for Your Grace," to the quietly moving finale of "Anything Is Possible." The worship theme is enhanced by the percolating R&B arrangements, which provide an energizing backdrop to the choir's message of praise. But neither snappy arrangements nor the presence of high-profile guests--including Winans alum Vanessa Bell Armstrong and gospel heavy-hitter Kevin Bond--can distract from the choir, led by Bishop Long, whose music is the physical manifestation of their faith. Their soaring voices dominate throughout, making listening to SPIRIT ...
| | Chris Tomlin Not To Us CD (2002)
Best Of Russ Taff
$14.59 Seemingly, there are two things about which Texan singer-songwriter Chris Tomlin is extremely dedicated. One is leading fellow Christians on the road to worship and faith. The other is crafting perfect little pop-rock gems abounding in infectious melodies, ear-grabbing production, and emotionally communicative lyrics. Though he presents a very personal viewpoint in the world of Christian pop, Tomlin doesn't utilize the folk-influenced sonic soft-pedal approach sometimes favored by artists like Bebo Norman. Instead, he employs walls of ringing, anthemic guitars, percolating ...

| | ZOEGirl Room To Breathe CD (2005) Enhanced CD
Best Of Russ Taff
$10.59 Though it only took a few years for ZOEGirl to become one of the biggest Christian teen-pop acts in the world, the group's albums reflect a maturity that many bands take much longer to achieve. ROOM TO BREATHE is as danceable and energetic as anything burning up the secular charts, but ZOEGirl's songs aren't afraid to address serious themes. "Scream" is a moody mid-tempo tune concerning a lost soul's desperate bid for attention, set to beats and synths reminiscent of Portishead. "Let It Out," a rocker equal parts the Go-Go's and Avril Lavigne, is a call not only ...
