| | Bone Crusher Attenchun! CD Bone Crusher Discography of CDs
(16 Customer Reviews)
Said single stomps in with the raw power of King Kong, potent and undeniable, completely legit, and a banging club track to boot. From that point on, ATTENCHUN never lets up, with haunting, fitful tracks augmented by guest shots from seemingly the whole south, from veterans like the aforementioned Dupri and Goodie Mob to unstoppable up-and-comers like Killer Mike, David Banner, and Lil' Jon.
Recorded at Sound Lab, FY Stations, Seven Eight, The Zone, Atlanta, Georgia; Access Studios, Marietta, Georgia.

ATTENCHUN!: the drill-sergeant title of Bone Crusher's debut pretty much sums up his attitude and style. While Outkast (and to a lesser degree Goodie Mob, Killer Mike, et al) cloak their crunk in endless folds of playful language and the Skrewed Up Klick filters it through syrup-infused hallucinogenic lethargy, Bone Crusher is the unrefined enforcer of the Dirty South world, so economical in language that he even fiercely dismisses his own intro. Jermaine Dupri sums it up in the opening of "Never Scared," "if you seen my man, you understand, you gotta moveà.get outta da way.'

Hailing from Atlanta, GA, the hardcore trio Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz are the premier practitioners of the southern rap sub-genre colloquially dubbed "crunk." The style is exemplified by forceful, primal beats, over-the-top, chanted vocals, and a bad-boy/party-hardy attitude that bypasses gangta cool in search of a pure visceral, hedonist high. Accordingly, there's little subtlety to be found on KINGS OF CRUNK, and rightfully so. Would you really want to hear a tender love ballad from leather-lunged badass Lil Jon? Wisely, Jon and his Boyz stick to their strengths, to such an extent that the weak of heart should have a physician on hand when listening to KINGS OF CRUNK, just in case they should be overcome by the sheer fierceness of it all.
The trio, made up of producer/performer Lil Jon, Big Sam and Lil Bo, ...
| | David Banner Mississippi: The Album CD (2003)
Attenchun!
$12.05 On his sophomore disc MISSISSIPPI: THE ALBUM, southern-centric hip-hopper David Banner delivers a fascinating mix of straight-up hardcore gangsta rap and politicized soul music in the vein of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. Like Marvel Comics superhero the Hulk, whose alter ego provides the artist's pseudonym, Banner is one scary looking character, and his rapping style is as gruff, threatening, and hyper-aggressive as his appearance might suggest.
Marrying his horrific lyrical scenarios to samples that often sound like low-budget slasher flick music or the WILD WORLD OF SPORTS theme gone astray, Banner puts the sex and violence right up front for all to see. Then, just as the listener thinks it's all been said before, the album switches gears, adopting a reflective, socially aware tone right out of WHAT'S GOIN' ON. Unlike most of his contemporaries, Banner isn't content to merely describe the societal ills he sees around him--he actually questions the motivations behind the problems. An ambitious project in what is too often a one-dimensional genre, MISSISSIPPI: THE ALBUM suggests that gangsta ...
| | Three 6 Mafia Da Unbreakables CD (2003)
Attenchun!
$6.85 Miles under the radar and outside the mainstream, Memphis rap collective Three 6 Mafia's prolific, harsh, uncompromising raps have built a tremendous following through tape swapping and other grass-roots methods. Not an unusual story in the Southern rap world, but Three 6 Mafia have managed platinum success creating an even rawer world than anything on No Limit, and through a thicker sheen of syrup than the Screwed-Up Click. The outfit's latest effort DA UNBREAKABLES reveals no dearth of material or focused anger in its 18 distinctive, hypnotically undeniable cuts.
The most remarkable aspect of the album is its elaborate, dramatic production style, closest to what fellow Southerners the Geto Boys were doing ...
| | T I Trap Muzik CD (2003)
Attenchun!
$10.29 On the remarkably vulnerable "I Can't Quit," the second track on his sophomore release, TRAP MUZIK, T.I. observes "I'm this close to being a star and just this close to quitting." His 2001 debut, I'M SERIOUS, seemed a powerful can't-miss record with a title single featuring an ace turn by Beenie Man. While it didn't wholly miss, the single which should have been pumpin' around the world barely saw a lick of airplay, and while the album sold modestly, it didn't even approach the platinum level lesser talents achieved with ease.
No matter though, T.I.'s back with a vengeance on TRAP MUZIK, an appealing melange of subtle beats and easy flows which belie the Georgia rapper's vast lyrical intellect. While there are aspects of the Dirty South in T.I.'s style, his world and his style are distinctly his own--incredibly unself-conscious but confident, observational, insightful, rough, and raw. This odd mix is best represented in the starkly honest "Doin' My Job," a cry for tolerance noteworthy for its lack of either cliche or treacle. The following track, the sexually laced banger, "Let's Get Away," could easily descend into a morass of silliness, yet somehow manages to remain organic. Hopefully, ...
| | Ying Yang Twins Me & My Brother CD (2003)
Attenchun!
$14.49 ME & MY BROTHER, the third album by Atlanta's Ying Yang Twins, follows the duo's prominently featured role on the Lil Jon & the Eastside Boys top 5 crossover hit "Get Low." In fact, the album capitalizes on that success immediately with "Georgia Dome," a sound-a-like sequel to that inescapable, infectious single. Crown Princes of Crunk, the Ying Yang Twins, Kaine and D-Roc, are all about following their ids, creating pared-down songs about sex, alcohol, blunts, and more sex--a formula the Twins ...
