HAREM veers between ethereal, almost New Age-like moments, operatic flurries, percolating dance beats, and some accessible Eastern-flavored exoticism. Through it all, Brightman's Broadway past occasionally pops up, as on her orchestra-accompanied version of the standard "Stranger in Paradise," which is itself based on a classical theme. In fact, the orchestra pops up throughout the album, playing arrangements by former Killing Joke member Jaz Coleman, who's surely ventured as far afield from his origins by this point as Ms. Brightman.
In addition to a 14-song collection, recorded at a TV program in Marrakech, there is a bonus DVD, featuring a 30-minute documentary filmed during the making of the album, with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the stuio, photoshoot, lots more.
Listening to HAREM, it's hard to believe that multifarious pop diva Sarah Brightman first came to fame as a proponent of musical theater (not counting her early stint with dance-pop group Hot Gossip). After going through a number of stylistic shifts over the years, she has arrived at an unusual point where her sound evokes a strange confluence of Charlotte Church, Enya, and Madonna. Given the "Arabian Nights" sub-theme of the album, you might even throw in a little "Desert Rose"-era Sting as well.

Sarah Brightman has taken several old songs and presented them in a haunting and provocative manner. One sometimes forgets the original versions and truly enoys her new interpretation. She does not fail to entertain to the fullest.

A Calming Voice
This CD is just beautiful. Sarah Has such a soothing voice. The CD as a whole is interesting as well as balanced musically.

This is an excellent Album. To my mind it is Sarah's best ever. Since I am not a music expert, I don't feel able to remark on every song. However, one track in particular comes to mind. It is "Stranger In Paradise", an old song, and one I never liked. I really like the song as done by Sarah.
I also really like "Free" and "What You Never Know"
Actually I like every piece on this album, which is something that has never happened before.

Sara is truly the greatest singer in the world today.This cd is amazing to listen to. You will fall in love with her angel voice and her special music. Frank Peterson is the best music writer. What a wonderful surprise to listen to a new song by Ofra Haza. For a minute I though she is alive! Actually, her spirit/memories will always be alive. Anyhow, Sarah, please, please come to L.A.

Sure, she's as close as you can get to naked in the album artwork. OK, so there's an insert hawking Sarah Brightman calendars, coffee mugs, and sweatshirts. Yes, there's a fair amount of calculation likely in her pop-classical crossover. That doesn't mean the lady can't sing like an angel. There was no difference from the individual discs on the market; those discs were merely put in a box, which made it convenient for a fan who wanted to get all three discs at once. Seven years later, Sony reformatted all of their previously released Collections, moving away from the slipcased jewel boxes and introducing a book-styled box set, where the three CDs sit with the liner notes from the individual CDs thrown into the bottom of the box.
