Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark: Paul Humphreys (vocals, keyboards, percussion, electronic percussion, programming); Andy McCluskey (vocals, keyboards, bass, electronic percussion, programming). This 1980 debut by the duo of Andy McCluskey ... Full Descriptionand Paul Humphreys is an important milestone in the history of synth-pop. Prior to ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK, synthesizer-based pop was either austere and/or deliberately unpleasant such as Kraftwerk or Throbbing Gristle, or novelty music the likes of M's "Pop Muzik."
This eponymous set was among the first by an almost entirely synthesizer-based band to focus on the creation of catchy, melodic pop songs. The tunes and lyrics are substantial, with the lovely "Julia's Song," and the semi-hit "Electricity," among the standouts. Other songs, like "The Messerschmitt Twins"--an early contender for the band name--and "Pretending To See the Future," are more atmospheric, but never formless. Although later OMD albums were more assured and technically complex, this is one of their best.
Includes liner notes by Paul Browne.

| Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Brilliance.... A completely brilliant effort from the fab duo that make up OMD. This is so worth the money! Especially for the bonus material. Their original and innocent beginnings are some of the finest electronica ever created. Get this if you are a fan of early 80's electro. computerized debut omd are like ahead of the time because of the futuristic instrumentals that sounds like battlestar galactica. this debut is like punk with synths. even though there are 2 members in the group, live drummers and other instruments help the band from sounding like a computer. one of the members did not like the older version of messages because it is too slow so they make an addictive single version as a hit and a bonus track. i liked the synths on all the tracks. bunker soldiers, julia's song, red frame/white light and more. very ahead of the time those guys. get it. This is my favourite OMD With songs like Electricity, Bunker Soldiers, and Red Flame / White Light, this would be the best OMD album. As with all their stuff, it has its good points and weak points, but that is what you get with those early experimental electronic band. Worth a listen. Recommended. Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark album
$15.18 Dream Theater's tenth long-player is about as dense and challenging as any album in the band's discography and emphasizes not only the virtuoso members' stupefying musicianship, but also their most aggressive and thoroughly metallic songwriting tendencies. The sixteen-minute opener "A Nightmare to Remember" quickly establishes this agenda via frequently thrash-paced staccato riffing, some of John Petrucci's most blistering guitar solos ever, and the return of drummer Mike Portnoy's syncopated growls, which provide contrast for singer James LaBrie's soaring melodic elegance. "The Count of Tuscany" is a heady prog-metal magnum opus brimming with more ideas, notes, ...

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark music CDs
$11.98 Possibly more so than any other prior Voivod release, 2009's INFINITI is all about their late guitarist (and co-founding member) Piggy. Armed with guitar parts he recorded prior to his 2005 passing, the surviving Voivod members subsequently set out to finish off these final tracks. And musically, INFINITI really is a tribute of sorts to Voivod's fallen guitarist, as his playing ...

America defined the soft-rock sound of the '70s. They wanted to be Crosby, Stills and Nash so badly that they figured out a way to not only pull it off, but beat CSN at their own game, logging even more hit singles than their chief inspiration. THE COMPLETE GREATEST HITS, true to its title, contains all those chart-toppers, as well as some songs that may be unfamiliar to the casual listener (if you weren't paying attention at the time, it's doubtful you'd recall the band's early-'80s comeback hit "You Can do Magic," for example).
While nobody's making a case for these easygoing popsters as bold innovators, even a cursory listen to this studiously compiled collection reveals a level of unassailable popcraft that places them ...

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark music CDs
$15.65 Even when backed by an electric guitar ("Me, My Yoke, and I") or adding variety by including vocalist Lisa Hannigan, Rice's approach is restrained and reflective. At its best, as on the chilly confessional "The Animals Were Gone" or the woozy, bleary shuffle of "Gray Room," 9 matches its predecessor. But even when not making great leaps forward, the album establishes a pleasant holding pattern for Rice, and is sure to please fans of his first effort and intrigue those hearing the ...
