Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark: Paul Humphreys (vocals, keyboards, percussion, electronic percussion, programming); Andy McCluskey (vocals, keyboards, bass, electronic percussion, programming).
This 1980 debut by the duo of Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys is an important milestone in the history of synth-pop. Prior to ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK, synthesizer-based pop was either austere and/or deliberately unpleasant such as Kraftwerk or Throbbing Gristle, or novelty music the likes of M's "Pop Muzik."
This eponymous set was among the first by an almost entirely synthesizer-based band to focus on the creation of catchy, melodic pop songs. The tunes and lyrics are substantial, with the lovely "Julia's Song," and the semi-hit "Electricity," among the standouts. Other songs, like "The Messerschmitt Twins"--an early contender for the band name--and "Pretending To See the Future," are more atmospheric, but never formless. Although later OMD albums were more assured and technically complex, this is one of their best.
Includes liner notes by Paul Browne.

| Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark Music Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Brilliance.... A completely brilliant effort from the fab duo that make up OMD. This is so worth the money! Especially for the bonus material. Their original and innocent beginnings are some of the finest electronica ever created. Get this if you are a fan of early 80's electro. computerized debut omd are like ahead of the time because of the futuristic instrumentals that sounds like battlestar galactica. this debut is like punk with synths. even though there are 2 members in the group, live drummers and other instruments help the band from sounding like a computer. one of the members did not like the older version of messages because it is too slow so they make an addictive single version as a hit and a bonus track. i liked the synths on all the tracks. bunker soldiers, julia's song, red frame/white light and more. very ahead of the time those guys. get it. This is my favourite OMD With songs like Electricity, Bunker Soldiers, and Red Flame / White Light, this would be the best OMD album. As with all their stuff, it has its good points and weak points, but that is what you get with those early experimental electronic band. Worth a listen. Recommended. Purchase Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Susan Boyle I Dreamed A Dream CD (2009)
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark album
$9.58 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late `60s and early `70s, and apart from a rather faithful version of Madonna's "You'll See," I Dreamed a Dream could very well have been released all those years ago, as it mixes up the show tunes, gospel, and Christmas carols with covers of Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World," the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses," and a version of "Daydream Believer" that is easily the slowest on record. Boyle sings beautifully throughout, delivering more of the same of what she did in her moment ...

| | Glee The Music 1 Glee: The Music, Vol. 1 CD (2009) Original Soundtrack
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark songs
$9.58 Like the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL franchise, GLEE became more than a TV show when several of its songs cracked the Hot 100, including the number four hit "Don't Stop Believing." That song kicks off this soundtrack, the first in a series of albums cataloging the music performed by the show's cast. Not all GLEE members are created equal--some cast mates are far better actors than singers--but this soundtrack has enough star power to keep things trucking along, especially when powerhouse alto Lea Michele takes the wheel. She sounds fantastic throughout, whether she's holding her own during a duet with Broadway queen Kristen Chenoweth or covering the likes of Jordin Sparks, Avril Lavigne, ...
| | Nirvana Bleach CD (1989) Deluxe; Deluxe Edition
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark album
$12.78 With a sludgy, chainsaw guitar sound that owes as much to early Black Sabbath as to Kurt Cobain's heroes The Melvins, whose drummer puts in an appearance here, Nirvana emerges from Seattle's underground scene as standard-bearers of a style that embraces the anger and energy of punk alongside the thick, muddy sonic attack favored by early '70s proto-metal bands. Cobain's lyrics are fueled by outrage and self-loathing, combining literary flair with a direct, visceral quality that makes him a viable candidate for the John-Lennon-of-Gen X award.
Nirvana's debut album showcases what sounds more like a force of nature than a rock band. The unrelenting fervor with which the group delivers these 13 tunes is almost frightening. There is also a strong melodic flair that leavens the ferocity occasionally, hinting at the scope of Cobain's compositional talents. "Love Buzz" and "About A Girl" show off enough pop smarts to make it clear that as strong as BLEACH is, Cobain's hiding even more tricks up his sleeve.
This is one ...
| | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark CD music
$10.35 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," fans needn't worry that Pink has lost any of her chutzpah.
If anything, there's an increased sense of confidence and newfound liberation ...
| | Roy Orbison Combo Concert: Holland 1965 CD (1998)
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark music CDs
$16.19 Since the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Roy Orbison is usually the epic orchestral sweep of melodramatic bolero-style hits like "Running Scared" and "It's Over," it can be hard to remember sometimes that Orbison was at heart a rock & roller. This excellent archival release of live sets recorded in Paris and Amsterdam ...

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark songs
$12.05 Stephen Gardner's earlier band Lorelei was at the forefront of genre-blending American indie experimentation. The bassist's Lorelei mates went their separate ways after one album and a pocketful of singles. Gardner wasn't so easily dissuaded from the off-beaten path. His enthusiasm and creative spirit were quickly rekindled by the renegade rhythms of English drum-and-bass. Soon after, ...
