| | Ennio Morricone Once Upon A Time In America Soundtrack CD - Import (2 Customer Reviews)
Import edition of 1995 soundtrack, composed, arranged, and conducted by Ennio Morricone (diretced by Sergio Leone). Whether sounding upbeat or stark, Morricone informs it all with the dry and windswept vacancy of the West. Beautiful and stunning. Includes 4 special edition tracks, previously unreleased, 'Suite from Once Upon A Time In America' (includes Amaploa), 'Poverty' (temp. version), 'Unused Theme' & 'Unused Theme' (version 2). Once Upon A Time In America Soundtrack
$9.29 The whistling trill that opens the main theme to THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY is so familiar as to be a cultural touchstone. Even an abbreviated sound byte of the theme is enough to conjure images of desolate desert plains, rolling tumbleweeds, and a cowboy-booted figure standing ominously in the distance. These images come from Sergio Leone's "spaghetti" Westerns (so called because they were shot in Italy), while the sounds--created to aid Leone's existential narratives--are the work of the legendary Ennio Morricone.
Along with Bernard Herrmann and Nino Rota, Morricone is one of the most successful, accomplished, and well-known film composers of the 20th century. Like much of his work, the soundtrack to THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY utilizes unconventional instrumentation. Peculiar vocal calls, clanging auxiliary percussion, and electric guitars (which often employ a Dick Dale-like surf twang) trade off with a full complement of strings. The music is startlingly eclectic, moving from folk melodies to avant-garde dissonance to ...
| | John Zorn Best Of Filmworks: 20 Years Of Soundtrack Music CD (2005)
Once Upon A Time In America Soundtrack
$13.39 John Zorn's history with film music has been a long and frequently difficult one. While the New York City-based avant-garde composer/saxophonist has created a number of cinematic scores, his artistic vision has often differed from that of the filmmakers, sometimes resulting in abandoned or rejected projects. Regardless of its actual use in finished movies, music that Zorn intended for the silver screen has reliably found its way onto his FILMWORKS series, and this excellent set cherry-picks ...

| | David Byrne Knee Plays CD (2007) Bonus DVD
Once Upon A Time In America Soundtrack
$15.65 Talking Heads fans sometimes have mixed reactions to David Byrne's solo work, complaining that it lacks the quirkiness and edge of classic Heads material. Those fans will have reason to take notice of the 2007 CD release of THE KNEE PLAYS, Byrne's score for Robert Wilson's opera THE CIVIL WARS. Originally recorded in 1985, THE KNEE PLAYS was Byrne's second solo outing, following THE CATHERINE WHEEL (an instrumental score for a dance production) and preceding his Latin experiments on REI MOMO.
Its position in his discography means THE KNEE PLAYS still bears the residue of Byrne's Heads aesthetic, namely in the spirit of its genre-mixing eclecticism. New Orleans brass band sounds form the skeleton of Byrne's score, with gospel, classical, and avant stylings mixed in. (Byrne provides wry, spoken word recitations for several pieces in the manner of Heads track "Seen and Not Seen".) Inventive and engaging throughout, THE KNEE PLAYS is a worthy addition to the Heads/Byrne catalogue. The CD release appends eight bonus tracks.
