In what amounts to the greatest crossover attempt since Mork crash-landed onto the set of Happy Days, two of Nickelodeon's most successful franchises have a head-on collision at the cinema and one of the results is RUGRATS GO WILD: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE. With the casts of both THE RUGRATS and THE WILD THORNBERRYS as principals, the resulting collection is a charming showcase for voice-over vets.
Cheryl Chase, Nancy Cartwright, Cree Summer, and Tommy, (aka Angelica, Chuckie, Susie and Tommy) team up on the kooky, Mark Mothersbaugh-composed "Island Princess." Bruce Willis, voice of beloved family dog Spike, also makes his mark on a duet with animated nemesis Chrissie Hynde on the catchy-but-sinister "Big Bad Cat" and an amusing lyrical rewrite of the thumping Iggy Pop classic "Lust For Life." Kids at heart get their musical mojo filled with previously released songs by The Clash ("Should I Stay Or Should I Go"), George Clinton ("Atomic Dog"), Train ("She's On Fire"), and Flashlight Brown ("Ready to Roll"). Those looking for newer fare can turn to Aerosmith's rowdy rocker "Lizard Love" and fellow Beantowners American Hi-Fi's sneering take on The Police classic "Message In a Bottle."

Rugrats Go Wild Soundtrack music CDs
$15.05 This album by the 1982 London revival cast of the musical Camelot is the fourth major recording of lyricist Alan Jay Lerner and composer Frederick Loewe's score, following the original Broadway (1960) and London (1964) cast LPs and the movie soundtrack (1967). (There have also been several minor recordings.) It is also the second, following the soundtrack, to feature Richard Harris in the role of King Arthur. By the early '80s, the show had evolved from a work more or less equally featuring three major characters, Arthur, Guenevere, and Lancelot, into a star vehicle for the actor playing Arthur. Richard Burton, who originated the part in 1960, headed a Broadway revival in 1980, but he gave way to Harris, first on Broadway in 1981, and here from the West End production of the following year. The recording reflects the change in emphasis the show has undergone. There is much more Arthur than on previous albums, and the performers handling Guenevere and Lancelot are less distinguished. Related to the change is a change in performing style. Burton, essentially a non-singer who ...

| | Chieftains Wide World Over: A 40 Year Celebration CD (2002) Bonus Track; Japan
Rugrats Go Wild Soundtrack album
$34.99 This a companion disc to a later release of 2002, DOWN THE OLD PLANK ROAD, celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Chieftains.
Additional personnel includes: Sinead O'Connor, The Coors, Ricky Skaggs, Joni Mitchell, Diana Krall, Sting, Linda Rondstat, Los Lobos, Erich Kunzel, The Cincinnati Pops, Elvis Costello, The Rolling Stones.
There are few groups so closely and unalterably associated with their home country as the Chieftains. These carriers of the traditional Irish folk torch had spent 40 years as Ireland's musical ambassadors by the time of this commemorative collection. On the one hand, they're unquestionably fine at laying down Irish tunes in the grand old style with bodhran and pipes blazing away (as on such tradition-minded fare as "Mo Ghile Mear" and the medley involving "King of Laois" and "Paddy's Jig." On the other, they've always been open to collaboration with artists from every corner of the music world, whether it's a former new wave hellion like Elvis Costello searching for his roots on "Long Journey Home" or countryman Van Morrison sounding entirely at home joining the lads for the evocative folk song "Shenandoah." As THE WIDE WORLD OVER makes abundantly clear, a large part of the Chieftains gift is in knowing how to mix the old and the new without compromise on either side of the equation.
For many of the people who discovered Celtic music in the '60s, '70s, '80s, or '90s, the Chieftains are the ultimate Irish band. But that doesn't make them purists. While leader/founder Paddy Moloney is indeed a master of traditional Irish/Celtic music, not everything that the Chieftains have recorded is totally traditional -- over the years, they have combined Celtic music with everything from rock to country to Chinese music. Assembled in 2002, this collection (which emphasizes RCA/BMG recordings from the '90s) reminds listeners how experimental and eclectic the Chieftains can be. Many of the 19 tracks find Moloney's band joining forces with major non-Irish artists, ...

$21.75 In 1942, Irving Berlin organized This Is the Army, an all-soldier musical to benefit war relief that updated his similar World War I show Yip! Yip! Yaphank. It ran on Broadway from July 4 to September 26, then toured the U.S. and around the world over the next three years. Berlin himself reprised "Oh, How I Hate to Get up in the Morning" from Yip! Yip! Yaphank, and other songs included the stirring "This Is the Army, Mr. Jones," the romantic "I Left My Heart ...
