Novelty acts by their very definition tend to be fleeting; once their novelty wears off, the humor evaporates and the performer is a footnote, an answer to a trivia question, if even that. POODLE HAT marks the third decade of parody king "Weird Al" Yankovic's work, with the modern master of all that's silly is still garnering attention and selling albums, showing no sign of stopping. No matter how inured one might be to his antics, it's hard to deny some of his truly gut-busting moments. Take the Eminem parody "Couch Potato," which skewers practically every television show and related fad of the previous four years, even offering rather trenchant commentary on reality television; it's hard to tell if he's kidding or serious when he spouts "next week on Fox watch lions eat Christians."
Most importantly, the parody is deft and dead-on, as most novelty acts who have managed any kind of career from Spike Jones to Tom Lehrer have been students of their art, an art surprisingly complex for all its silliness. POODLE HAT matches the usual expectations of Yankovic fans, featuring the usual anticipated and hilarious polka medley and a startlingly deft guest shot by piano man Ben Folds.
POODLE HAT won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album.

really good a real Weird Al album just like the past albums. Espacially the parodies of eminem and avril are good. Submitted by a reviewer (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
odd well its not as good as his other cds
sure there are a few goods tracks but some
where just awful. since i guess some of the songs are newer i did not get into it to much since i did not now the songs at all since i usually listen to oldies.
i could not play it on the computer while running around doing other things every time i would try and do something else it would stop playing.
if you just let it play you can see the lyrics on your computer screen as the song is playing which was interesting.
so if you are weird fan might as well add it to your collection.

One of Al's best albums I don't know why professional reviews of this album are generally bad because I think it's one of Weird Al's best albums. Everything is great except for "Angry White Boy Polka," which is just okay. "Ode to a Superhero," "Trash Day," and "eBay" are amazing. Also, Al's new, original song, "Hardware Store," is cool and unique sounding. You can expect top-notch lyrics on all of the songs as is usual for Weird Al. of the three new ones, the best without doubt!!! i've always liked al and all that he does, but i don't have much of his material admitedly. still, i feel it is my god given right to proclaim without fear of being argued with that... POODLE HAT ROCKS!!!!!!best parody was probably um... nope can't pick just one. best original? hardware store without doubt. that and bob. really, that track never gets old it's always funny and very clever.
by the way, if you are a Wierd al fan you should also check out Straight Outta Lynwood i recommend it. Submitted by Trent Wellard (Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
