Novelty acts by their very definition tend to be fleeting; once their novelty wears off, the humor evaporates and the performer is a footnote, an answer to a trivia question, if even that. POODLE HAT marks the third decade of parody king "Weird ... Full DescriptionAl" Yankovic's work, with the modern master of all that's silly is still garnering attention and selling albums, showing no sign of stopping. No matter how inured one might be to his antics, it's hard to deny some of his truly gut-busting moments. Take the Eminem parody "Couch Potato," which skewers practically every television show and related fad of the previous four years, even offering rather trenchant commentary on reality television; it's hard to tell if he's kidding or serious when he spouts "next week on Fox watch lions eat Christians."
Most importantly, the parody is deft and dead-on, as most novelty acts who have managed any kind of career from Spike Jones to Tom Lehrer have been students of their art, an art surprisingly complex for all its silliness. POODLE HAT matches the usual expectations of Yankovic fans, featuring the usual anticipated and hilarious polka medley and a startlingly deft guest shot by piano man Ben Folds.
POODLE HAT won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album.

$9.65 Step into the zany brain of Weird Al as he serves up another eclectic bag of pasquinades and original tunes. Yankovic's spoofs remain true to the melody, and the lyrics flow well as he satirizes a potpourri of poppers from Coolio ("Amish Paradise") to TLC ("Phony Calls") to U2 ("Cavity Search," which urges, "Numb me/Drill me/Floss me/Bill me"). In "The Alternative Polka," Yankovic takes a whirlwind romp through ...
| | Weird Al Yankovic Running With Scissors CD (1999)
Poodle Hat songs
$9.75 When this accordion-wielding parodist first came into the public eye with '80s mock-rock hits like "Another One Rides the Bus" and "My Bologna," few would have guessed he'd still be charting with his quirky brand of humor in 1999. Al's up to his old tricks with a vengeance here, using the melody of Don McLean's folk-rock epic "American Pie" to relate the tale of the PHANTOM MENACE installment in the STAR WARS series. He takes on hip-hop, too, turning "It's All About the Benjamins" into the computer ode "It's All About the Pentiums." The contemporaneous neo-swing craze is similarly skewered as "Zoot Suit Riot" becomes the nutrition-conscious "Grapefruit Diet." Al's capable of writing uproarious original tunes as well, as evidenced by the Zydeco stomper "My Baby's in Love ...

Weird Al Yankovic's STRAIGHT OUTTA LYNWOOD further assures his heavyweight title as the king of pop parody. Chamillionaire's "Ridin'Dirty" is spun into a self-conscious poke at race when it becomes "White and Nerdy," and the national boundaries of Green Day's "American Idiot" are shifted in "Canadian Idiot." Elsewhere, Weird Al takes on the Killers, Usher, and the Black Eyed Peas, but he also contributes several originals that display the same goofy, satirical edge as his comic revisions of the hits. Longtime fans of Weird Al's shtick will have plenty to enjoy, and ...
