| | Final Come Down Final Comedown CD Final Come Down Discography of CDs
The Final Comedown was Blue Note's first film soundtrack and a departure for both the label and Grant Green. True, many of Green's sessions from this period dipped into funk and R&B, but most of the tracks heard here are pensive mood pieces, conceived as the backing tracks to the blaxploitation film of the same name. As can be expected, there are a handful of cuts -- "Past, Present and Future," "Slight Fear and Terror," "Battle Scene" -- featuring things like staccato horn punches, dramatic tympani, and little in the way of instrumental soloing -- standard fare for the genre. Others, like the fantastic title track, showcase Green in a setting much more akin to his previous funk dates (Alive, etc.). Like any film score, The Final Comedown shifts moods as often as it revisits themes, so one should expect to hear a wide variety of styles held together by only a few common motifs. The most puzzling thing about this release, perhaps, is the fact that it was credited to Green at all. Wade Marcus composed and conducted every track and at least a few of them feature Green in nothing more than a supporting role. Recommended for fans of blaxploitation soundtracks and early-'70s jazz-funk. ~ Brandon Burke

His journey was led to new heights when he was discovered by a record executive and offered a recording contract as the lead singer in the quartet now known as All-4-One.Jamie's vocals helped propel All-4-One to multi-platinum status with mega hits such as "So Much in Love", "I Swear", "I Can Love U Like That", and other chart topping songs. With sales of over 15 million records worldwide, a bevy of awards including a Grammy, an American Music Award, a Blockbuster Award and countless international awards, the Los Angeles based singer, songwriter and producer, Jamie Jones is releasing his highly anticipated solo album, "illuminate". Recorded at Jamie's state-of-the-art Genesis Studio, "illuminate", brims with layers of inherent talent and propulsive beats. The album renders Jamie's unbridled passion for music and his desire to serve as a bridge linking people to God. The style of the album is described as Neo-Gospel, a musical collaboration of old school soul meets gospel music to hip hop beats. The result is refreshing and nothing less than extraordinary. Producing and writing for other artists has furthered Jamie's career sales to surpass ...
| | Paul Bollenback Brightness Of Being CD (2006)
Final Comedown album
$13.89 Paul Bollenback, perhaps best known as organist Joey DeFrancesco's regular guitarist although he has led quite a few record dates of his own, gathered together quite a variety of material for Brightness of Being. In addition to four of his originals, the repertoire includes some Ray Charles hits and songs by Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, and classical composer Puccini. Bollenback is joined by bassist James Genus, either Terri-Lyne Carrington or Ari Honnig on drums, and three different saxophonists. Veteran David "Fathead" Newman is typically warm and soulful on "Unchain My Heart" and "You Don't Know Me," Tim Garland shows versatility on his three reeds, and tenor saxophonist Gary Thomas plays a bit more conservatively than usual during his appearances. Another asset is singer Chris McNulty, who is heard on four numbers, mostly singing wordlessly. But throughout, guitarist Bollenback is generally the solo star, giving this diverse set unity, coherency, and a constant swing. Recommended. ~ Scott Yanow
"Bollenback's chord solo is true art. His intro on 'You Don't Know Me' is also a harmonic gem. The original 'Together' features a wonderfully imaginative player who, while flying by the seat of his pants, uses his marvelous chops to build a solo of wonderful intensity!..could be a bop-funk hero!his playing carries such a variety of styles, while losing no power, that once you hear him, you can't ignore him." Vintage Guitar, June 2006 "Not one jazz virtuoso could put the definition of jazz into words, but all agreed that you know it when you hear it. That's the way it is with Paul Bollenback. It's bona-fide playing, unambiguous, up-front and powerful," summarizes guitar master George Benson, a long-time supporter. Bollenback's debut recording as a leader, Original Visions, on Challenge Records, is one of the most creative efforts by a guitarist in recent memory. Double Gemini, his second CD, features four of his own compositions and won the title of CD of The Month in Jim Fisch's distinguished jazz column in 20th Century Guitar Magazine. It won the same award from the renowned jazz radio station WBGO ...

Final Comedown album
$13.99 The fact that saxophonist Willie Williams is from Philadelphia, combined with the cool, retro, space graphics and the title Comet Ride, might lead some to expect a Sun Ra-style space-jazz freak-out. But while there's an adventurous feel to this trio set, the longtime T.S. Monk sideman keeps to the tonal side of modern jazz throughout. In fact, after the spirited title track, the album settles into a fairly placid groove for its first half, following the lovely, floating "Tenor Ballet" with a pair of post-bop ballads, the gently melodic "I'm Misunderstood" and the slightly more outside "Three Generations," that strongly recall John Coltrane's late-'50s work with Monk. The feisty "Freedom Suite" kicks off the more up-tempo ...
| | Agua De Annique Air CD (2007)
Final Comedown CD music
$7.99 Anneke Van Giersbergen's abrupt departure from the Gathering was understandably traumatic for their small but loyal fan base, signaling the end of an era for one of the most quietly iconoclastic and influential acts of the '90s, one responsible in large part for the proliferation of female-fronted heavy metal bands across the European mainland. But listeners who had stuck with the Gathering throughout their most recent, almost entirely post-metal efforts will actually be hardly surprised at Van Giersbergen's new direction and its slightly more pronounced commitment to gentle sonic dreamscapes, intimate singer/songwriter fragility, and occasional electronic sounds. The difference really is minimal, and since Air's mellow opening track, "Beautiful One," could have feasibly fit right into the Gathering's 2006 album Home (as could have later offerings like "Day After Yesterday," "My Girl," and "Lost and Found"), the reality ...
