| | Saliva CD Saliva Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
This is essentially a straight reissue of Saliva's independently released 1997 debut, barring the updated cover art. Its track list remains the same, as does the material's fidelity (which wasn't bad to begin with). The Saliva that appears here is a much more ragged metal outfit; stripped of studio gloss and programming, the band often sounds more menacing than it does on either of its major-label releases. "Beg" and "Spitshine" are sleazy in black leather, while "Greater Than Less Than" appears in its original form, minus the programming and reverb of the Every Six Seconds version. ~ Johnny Loftus
1997 debut album for Saliva whose rise to the top was strengthened in 2000 by their signing to Island Records, the inclusion of the Grammy nominated single 'Your Disease' on the soundtrack for the hit movie Dracula 2000 and the release of their major label debut Every Six Seconds further fueled the fire. Rockingchair Records. 2003 reissue.
Recorded at Rockingchair Studios, Memphis, Tennessee.
Saliva: Josey Scott (vocals); Wayne Swinny, Chris Dabaldo (guitar); Dave Novotny (bass); Todd Poole (drums, background vocals).

Saliva album
$6.19 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, it was impossible to walk down the hall of any college dorm in America without hearing one of the songs here echoing from somebody's room.
Heard today, the thing still packs a wallop. Butterfield's harmonica and vocals are utterly idiomatic, without a hint of minstrelsy. Michael Bloomfield's lead guitar is stinging and eloquent, and the rhythm section, on loan from Howling Wolf, swings like mad. The only fly in the ointment is the fairly primitive production, which often makes Mark Naftalin's keyboards sound like a horde of angry bees, but that's a small criticism in the face of blues playing as passionate and accomplished as this. A genuine classic.
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band: Michael Bloomfield.

Includes liner notes by Pete Welding.
Personnel: Paul Butterfield (vocals, harmonica); Sam Lay (vocals, drums); Elvin Bishop (guitar); Mike Bloomfield (slide guitar); Jerome Arnold (bass); Mark Naftalin (organ).
| | Saliva Every Six Seconds CD (2001)
Saliva CD music
$11.39 "Your Disease" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
While this hard-rocking quintet churns out gut-crunching guitar riffs capable of giving Korn or Limp Bizkit a run for their money, EVERY SIX SECONDS isn't a gravy train-riding rap-metal endeavor. From the sound of things, Saliva has learned a thing or two from the ominous, minor-key melodies of '90s grunge-related acts like Alice In Chains and the instantly accessible hooks of poppier types such as Collective Soul.
While much of the album is spent at an intensity level of 11, there are moments (particularly the reflective "Hollywood") of relative melodic respite. Saliva sounds fully capable of pinning back the ears of any teenage mosh-pit denizen, but there are a few moments on this disc that wouldn't sound at all out of place in any given Top 40 radio format.

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Saliva music CDs
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. There's also a lovely rendition of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" that's topped only by Ron Wood's reappearance on a finale of the Stones' "Ruby Tuesday." VH1 PRESENTS THE CORRS LIVE IN DUBLIN is a fine mix of the band's greatest hits with a few well-chosen covers, which will doubtless reach out to new fans and longtime Corrs aficionados alike.
Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002.

| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Saliva songs
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch onto SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA with the same passion with which they embraced THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY. And most importantly, unreconstructed Southern rockers of the boogie-and-beer variety will appreciate the fact that this is an unapologetic, non-ironic valentine to the sound of not only Skynyrd, but the Allman Brothers, the Marshall Tucker Band, and the modern-day jam bands that are their musical descendents. Funny and surprisingly sad, passionate but with obvious good humor, SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA must be experienced to be understood.
Additional personnel includes: Kelly Hogan, Annie Richmond, Boston.
Includes liner notes by Patterson Hood.
Producers: Drive-By Truckers, Dick Cooper, David Barbe.

| | Saliva Survival Of The Sickest CD (2004)
Saliva album
$10.85 On SURVIVAL OF THE SICKEST, Saliva largely forgoes the rap-metal and post-grunge sounds that characterized the group's previous albums in favor of an old-school, Southern rock-informed brand of blazing power metal. The riffs are simpler, the melodies catchier, and the lyrical sentiments more up-front than ever before, making for a particularly bracing listen. On "Rock & Roll Revolution" and the title track, Saliva sounds like a combination of early Metallica and Lynyrd Skynyrd, but with the celebratory spirit of classic Kiss. "Open Eyes," on the other hand, is a straight-up power ballad of the sort that would make Poison and Ratt proud. Throughout, the band sounds like it's having a great time, repeatedly skewering record-industry phonies while proving that hard rock remains as ...
| | Dredg Catch Without Arms CD (2005)
Saliva CD music
$8.49 Early on, critics often described Dredg as a metal group. However, the quartet has since matured into a hard-edged indie-rock ensemble that seeks diversity and refinement in its music. On CATCH WITHOUT ARMS, the band favors highly orchestrated parts, dense guitar riffs, and powerful drumming. Each song is based around memorable vocal hooks and sensitive lyrical content.
Many tracks on CATCH WITHOUT ARMS have a searching quality to them. Despite the sheer force of the music, this release is ultimately marked by well constructed melodies and intriguing harmonic underpinnings. This is due in part to singer Gavin Hayes, who sounds more like U2's Bono than a metal screecher. Hayes's tenor soars above tunes such as "Ode To the Sun" and the title track. "Hungover On a Tuesday" contains another towering vocal, which moves effortlessly over Mark Engles's syncopated guitar. Finally, "Matroska (The Ornament)" brims with deep emotion; it also has an infectious, even danceable, groove. If CATCH WITHOUT ARMS shows a young band that still ...

| | Faster Pussycat CD (1987)
Saliva songs
$8.85 Faster Pussycat's self-titled debut is mostly Aerosmith boogie sleaze, glammed up by way of the fertile L.A. club scene. The band is somewhat similar to contemporaries Guns N' Roses, but with that band's urban grit and substance replaced by a Crüe-ish party-hearty attitude. The music is slick, but fun. ~ Steve Huey
Faster Pussycat: Taime Downe (vocals); Greg Steele, Brent Muscat (guitar, background ...
