Piano Foreplay album
$15.05 Orchestral and choral arrangements of rock songs have been a curious subgenre ever since the mid-'60s when Andrew Loog Oldham arranged The Rolling Stones Songbook for syrupy strings, but The Kinks Choral Collection stands apart from the pack for the simple reason that it's not the project of some associate or admirer, but rather chief Kink Ray Davies. His very presence as arranger and lead vocal means The Kinks Choral Collection isn't nearly as stuffy and middlebrow as so many of these orchestral rock albums; he manages to inject some semblance of rock & roll by pushing the songs forward with guitar, and letting the rhythms swing instead of plod. This looseness is the first big surprise of the album. The second is its unrepentant but quite possibly accidental silliness, how many of the major guitar riffs are transposed for choir, an audacious idea in ...

| | Herb Alpert South Of The Border CD (1964) Remastered; Special Edition
Piano Foreplay album
$9.99 Herb Alpert/Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass/Tijuana Brass: Herb Alpert (trumpet); John Pisano (electric guitar); Tonni Kalash (trumpet); Bob Edmondson (trombone); Lou Pagani (piano); Pat Senatore (bass guitar); Nick Ceroli (drums).
Herb Alpert was still using an array of SoCal studio all-stars as his Tijuana Brass when South of the Border (1964) began to restore the combo's good name after the modest Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass, Vol. 2 (1963) failed to ignite a fire in listener's ears. In his essay accompanying Shout! Factory's 2005 Signature Series reissue of South of the Border, Alpert comments that the Sol Lake composition "Mexican Shuffle" "opened a new door for me." That passageway meant the loss of the Tijuana Brass' practically forced mariachi style and the rise of Alpert's approach ...
| | Les Paul & Friends: American Made World Played CD (2005)
Piano Foreplay CD music
$11.29 Released in celebration of Les Paul's 90th birthday, AMERICAN MADE WORLD PLAYED pays tribute to the master guitarist and inventor who changed the face of jazz, country, blues, and rock with his recording and guitar-design innovations. While the lineup here is stellar and includes vocalists Sting, Joss Stone, and Mick Hucknall (Simply Red), and guitarists Joe Perry (Aerosmith) and Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), among others, the album is at its best when it allows Paul to shine in an instrumental setting, as on the slinky rendition of Duke Ellington's "Caravan" and the funky ...

| | Done Been Gettin' To It CD (2006)
Piano Foreplay songs
$10.65 Anyone who knows the Minneapolis music scene knows that it is a deep pocket of talent tucked unassumingly in the upper Midwest. Done Been, a project recorded by Sean Behling (Sax/Production), Rob Dewey (Keys), and Zack Lozier (Trumpet), proves once again this town turns out music that is unique and inspired. As evident in the playing on the album, these musicians have developed chemistry playing together in different groups/settings since 1998. Eleven instrumental tracks on the album showcase these musicians performing ten original pieces and a cover of T. Monk's 'Epistrophy.' These pieces arranged mostly by Behling feature group interplay, soulful improvisation, and compositions diverse in style. Collaborations with DJ Detalx, and MCs Crescent Moon, Advizer and Doug Kearney show an interesting synthesis as the vocalists and musicians ...

Piano Foreplay album
$6.39 File under: Party-rock, Stoner-pop, Wild-art-rock, but NEVER confuse Junebug Spade as this year's new hipster version of local gods The Flaming Lips. Hailing from their shared hometown of Oklahoma City, some upcoming bands find it difficult to break free from the obvious musical association. Not a problem for Junebug Spade. With a bent toward the psychedelic and those beloved rock and indie bands of youth (Pixies, Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones), ringleader Peter Seay set out to record an album of wild rock and unexpected song structures. The band features some of Oklahoma's most creative musicians, known more for their off-beat sensibilities than for their conventional indie aesthetic. The self-titled EP-their first release-was recorded between ...
