Angel Of The American Stage Music Della Reese Angel Of The American Stage Songs Angel Of The American Stage Music Review Average Rating: (3 out of 5 stars) If It's Live, SAY It's Live! The cover makes no mention about the fact that all but four tracks on this compilation, are live performances. I'm a young man who is just getting into Della, and I feel a little deceived by this album, but at least the art work is beautiful, and the live songs aren't actually bad. Della's voice shines through the sloppy quality, and she melts your heart with old favorites such as "Don't You Know" and "Won't You Come Home, Bill Bailey?"
But... IT'S LIVE, FOLKS! Remember, most of these compilations by this label, are sloppy live performances, and they make no mention of it, so beware. Submitted by reno1987 (Reno) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Lucinda Williams Live @ The Fillmore West CDs (2005) Digipak
Angel Of The American Stage songs
$14.89 Never one to tread the expected path, Lucinda Williams followed her big breakthrough album, CAR WHEELS ON A GRAVEL ROAD, with a pair of low-key records full of sad, quiet, fragile songs (interrupted by the occasional barn-burner). LIVE @ THE FILLMORE concentrates heavily on those latter two releases, unleashing all the intense, burning emotions that lay at their core, making plain the inherent frisson lurking below the surface of such ostensibly laconic tunes as "Lonely Girls" and "Righteously." Meanwhile, songs that already had plenty of bite in their studio versions are pumped up to an even more electrifying, visceral level (a bold, crunching "Changed the Locks;" the roaring, bluesy "Joy"). The debt Williams and her band owe to Neil Young & Crazy Horse is illuminated on "Are You Down," and, elsewhere, a spoken intro finds the singer laying bare her affection for ZZ Top. Clearly, revelations of all kinds abound on this ...

| | Linda Ronstadt Adieu False Heart CD (2006)
Angel Of The American Stage CD music
$14.99 The material is deep-roots folk with a strong Cajun flavor, and with top session players like mandolinist Sam Bush on board, the execution and playing is never less than flawless. Yet the arrangements and approach transcend any sort of genre exercise: Ronstadt and Savoy sing as though they are spirits resting between the past and the future, giving this mixture of originals, covers, and traditional songs a beautiful, timeless quality.
By the early 2000s Linda Ronstadt was galaxies away from the '70s soft rock on which she made her name. On a journey that led her deeper and deeper into American roots music she began working with traditional Cajun artist Ann Savoy (of the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band), and the results of the collaboration can be found on 2006's graceful and beautifully ...
| | Cannonball Adderley Swiss Radio Days Jazz Series, Vol. 3: Lugano 1963 CD (1995)
Angel Of The American Stage music CDs
$11.55 Recorded live at Auditorio RSI, Lugano, Switzerland on March 24, 1963. Includes liner notes by Norberto Gimelfarb and Paolo Keller.
LUGANO 1963 is a radio transcription released as part of TCB Records' SWISS RADIO DAYS series of live-jazz discs. The recording may not be as pristine-sounding as some of Julian "Cannonball" Adderley's live discs from this era, like PARIS 1960 or 1966's IN JAPAN, but it's impossible to argue with the contents.
LUGANO 1963 was recorded with nearly the same sextet lineup that released the classic NIPPON SOUL album the same year: alto saxophonist Adderley, his cornetist brother Nat, reedsman Yusef Lateef, pianist Joe Zawinul, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Louis Hayes. The recording features a scorching take on NIPPON SOUL's classic "Work Song" alongside six other representative tracks from this era of Adderley's career. "Jive Samba" and "Bohemia after Dark" are particularly strong, with both brothers and Lateef blowing some remarkable ...
