The suite for flute and a piano jazz trio in 1976 was a true revolution in the classical world in the US. Firstly because Claude Bolling had the idea of mixing the greatest musical movement of the XXth century - jazz - with classical music. Suite For Flute & Jazz Piano album
$15.99 Though their paths crossed on the Miles Davis classic IN A SILENT WAY and on Larry Coryell's SPACES, this disc is the first actual collaboration between pianist Chick Corea and guitarist John McLaughlin. The Five Peace Band truly is a super-group, the other members being the versatile bassist Christian McBride (acoustic and electric), saxophonist Kenny Garrett (a Miles alumnus too), and fusion drumming ace Vinnie Colaiuta. LIVE features cozy, intimate Corea-McLaughlin duets, sizzling electric playing, and enchanting acoustic passages. ...

| | Jaco Pastorius CD (1976) Remastered
Suite For Flute & Jazz Piano music CDs
$7.59 With one album, this self-titled first release, bass phenomenon Jaco Pastorius was catapulted into the position of the greatest electric bass player that ever lived. Officially discovered by Blood, Sweat & Tears drummer Bobby Colomby, Jaco's revolutionary use of the bass as a solo instrument made him one of the most compelling instrumentalists of the electric era. Indeed, this record marked a turning point in the history of music--from the period before Jaco Pastorius and the period since.
It is the first track, Charlie Parker's "Donna Lee," that did it all. Accompanied only by conga drums, Jaco proceeds to ferociously tear through the intricate melody and then produce several choruses of stunning solos like no one had ever heard. From machine gun-like staccato lines to deep space harmonics, his command of the instrument is frightening. Pastorius is joined by R&B heroes Sam & Dave for a rousing reading of the funky "Come On, Come Over." Also included on this treasure are cherished works like the expressive "Continuum," the poetic solo "Portrait of Tracy," and the fiery "(Used to be a) Cha-Cha." In all, more than a stunning debut, this is a testament to Pastorius' legendary greatness.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.

| | George Russell The Outer View CD (1962)
Suite For Flute & Jazz Piano songs
$9.45 By all rights, pianist/composer George Russell should be more widely known outside the jazz world. His LYDIAN CHROMATIC CONCEPT, one of the first music-theory books written by a jazz musician, influenced such players as Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Russell's compositions are not mere frameworks for improvisation. Though filled with unexpected twists and turns, his thoughtful, knotty tunes never sacrifice drive and passion.
On THE OUTER VIEW, a session from 1962, Russell's pieces elicit inspired, committed performances from his sidepeople. Don Ellis' trumpet crackles on the title track, which goes back-and-forth between smooth yet high-flying swing and quirky dissonance. In the hands of Russell's band and guest jazz-singer Sheila Jordan, ...
