| | Dave Liebman Doin It Again CD - Import Dave Liebman Discography of CDs
Considering what Liebman's quintet was able to achieve on "If They Only Knew," this one is a bit of a disappointment. For one thing, trumpeter Terumasa Hino plays a smaller role, featured only on a lovely rendition of "Stardust." For another, there is more of a feel of 1970s fusion to the whole, which while appealing to some, is nonetheless dated. John Scofield is splendid on electric guitar, with the spiraling, atmospheric forays for which he is known. Overall, this is lightweight fare, with pleasant, danceable melodies and a solid beat provided by drummer Adam Nussbaum. Liebman plays both tenor and soprano saxophones, and he burns on the latter for Ron McClure's "Lady." He shows why he is such a well-respected and sought after performer, and he easily rises above the material. While there are plenty of good moments throughout this recording, there are better examples of the saxophonist's work. The ethereal nature of some of the CD leads to a light airy quality. For those looking for the beef, this might be a tad disappointing. ~ Steven Loewy Considering what Liebman's quintet was able to achieve on "If They Only Knew," this one is a bit of a disappointment. Doin It Again
$23.29 Personnel: Jan Garbarek (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone). Audio Mixers: Jan Erik Kongshaug; Jan Garbarek; Manfred Eicher. It's hard to believe that after recording as a leader for 40 years, DRESDEN: IN CONCERT is Jan Garbarek's first-ever live album. For those who think that Garbarek abandoned jazz some time ago, this will be a shock. DRESDEN is an engaged, kinetic, double-disc, two-hour performance of his quartet playing in the modern jazz idiom and using all of its tenets--from complex harmonics and rhythmic invention to extended lyric improvisation--to create a tour de force that honors all the music he holds dear. Garbarek plays tenor, soprano, and selje flute here, and is accompanied by his regular group that includes drummer Manu Katche, pianist/keyboadist Rainer Brüninghaus, and electric bassist Yuri Daniel. ...

Doin It Again
$12.65 Zach Caruso is a guitarist/singer/songwriter from southern New Jersey. His love of music began at an early age after acts like Green Day and The Black Crowes sparked his interest in the guitar. Completely self-taught, he began singing and writing his own original music by the age of 14. Zach's musical tastes began to mature, and so did the music he wrote. Acts such as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Joe Bonamassa re-fueled his love of guitar as well as peaked his interest in older style classic rock/blues music, while performers like Ben Harper and The John Butler Trio opened his eyes to new genres. Many of his songs hearken back to the older days of rock music, while others have a fresh new style, and others still are difficult to classify. One thing ...
