There's always room for summer jams, and if Nelly's "Hot In Herre" owned the summer of 2002, the jam pouring out the windows, pumping from the cranked-up speakers of the most pimped-out rides in the warmest months of '03 is clearly Chingy's "Right Thurr." Similar to Nelly, Chingy is straight out of St. Louis, possesses a smooth, confident, charming vocal style and spins hypnotic dialect with a blithe humor over insistently catchy beats. Moreover, both rappers' debut albums were phenomena practically out of the box. JACKPOT, Chingy's debut, deserves its attention with an impressive variety of constantly banging tracks.
Fellow Southern spirit Ludacris brought Chingy into his Disturbing Tha Peace fold and guests along with Snoop Dogg on the slightly screwed-up "Holidae In." From the spiraling flow and hooky chorus of "Chingy Jackpot" to the unrelenting bass of "Juice" to a bonus remix of the undeniable "Right Thurr," Chingy never loses his focus. More than just mere support to the smash single, JACKPOT features a remarkably consistent collection of danceably appealing tracks and ensures the young rap lion a slew of singles.

Chingy is garbage to the 3rd degree This cd is so wack, serously chingy's voice sounds like a pig squiling over horrible beats. don't let the groupies in here fool you about this cd being great, this is trash to the fullest terms. the circumstances for this album is pointless, he sells because of the groupies, he will never be in the cateogory of nas, jay-z, or real lyricist. Commercial Rap at its Best Nelly wanna be yes, but he does it better. Luda production helps this cd. Another decent rapper to appeal to the young rap fans. Good beats, decent lyrics. Pick it up Submitted by Preston (Buckhannon, WV) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Jackpot
$9.55 DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album. "Dangerously In Love" won for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. "The Closer I Get To You" won for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals. "Crazy In Love" won for Best R&B Song and for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The song was also nominated for Record of the Year.
Besides deft, pitch-perfect hit songs, the talented if volatile Destiny's Child was remarkable for its unpredictability, not always a defining characteristic of mainstream R&B. While there was certainly a formula at play in the songs, the structure was subtly unstable, never following standard progressions. Yet most of their singles flew to the top of both the pop ...
| | Lil' Jon Kings Of Crunk CD (2002)
Jackpot
$14.45 Additional personnel includes: Eightball, MJG, Big Tymers, Chyna Whyte, E-40, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Krayzie Bone, Mystikal, Oobie Pastor Troy, Petey Pablo, Roy Jones, Jr., Too $hort, Trick Daddy, UGK, Ying Yang Twins.
Hailing from Atlanta, GA, the hardcore trio Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz are the premier practitioners of the southern rap sub-genre colloquially dubbed "crunk." The style is exemplified by forceful, primal beats, over-the-top, chanted vocals, and a bad-boy/party-hardy attitude that bypasses gangta cool in search of a pure visceral, hedonist high. Accordingly, there's little subtlety to be found on KINGS OF CRUNK, and rightfully so. Would you really want to hear a tender ...
| | Dmx Grand Champ CD (1999)
Jackpot
$12.05 AND THEN THERE WAS X was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album and "Party Up" was nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance.
No other rapper exerts quite as much energy as Def Jam heavyweight DMX. With his adrenaline-pumped hip-hop anthems, Yonkers native DMX has taken the hip-hop industry by storm. His third album, AND THEN THERE WAS X came only one year after his highly-anticipated second album, FLESH OF MY FLESH..., which came only six months after his multi-platinum debut, IT'S DARK AND HELL IS HOT. With this series of rapid-fire releases, DMX was able to remain on the cutting edge of rap.
"What's My Name?" perhaps most clearly demonstrates the power of the Ruff Ryder frontman. The other Swizz Beatz-produced tracks bring forth more of the same flavor. His rough-edged lyrics and spitfire delivery will leave his "dogs" foaming at the mouth for more. Though X is backed by one of hip-hop's most prominent crews (the Ruff ...
| | Outkast Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below CDs (2003) Enhanced CD
Jackpot
$15.95 Includes an untitled hidden track at the end of THE LOVE BELOW CD.
Additional personnel includes: Sleepy Brown, Jazze Pha, Jay-Z, Killer Mike, Big Gipp, Ludacris, Rosario Dawson, Norah Jones, Kelis, Cee-Lo, Lil Jon, Mello, Slim Calhoun, Kuhjo Goodie.
SPEAKERBOXXX/THE LOVE BELOW won the 2004 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year and for Best Rap Album. "Hey Ya!" won for Best Urban/Alternative Performance. The song was also nominated for Record Of The Year.
Simply put, there is no band that does anything close to what Outkast does. Big Boi & Andre 3000 have consistently managed to maintain mainstream success while obliterating the limits of what is considered to be hip-hop. Frolicking at the outskirts of language, they throw every genre into a blender ...
| | Ludacris Chicken & Beer CD (2003)
Jackpot
$10.39 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
In the year leading up to the release of his third disc, CHICKEN & BEER, Ludacris' distinguished drawl could be heard all over the radio on commanding guest appearance after guest appearance, most notably on Missy Elliott's smash "Gossip Folks." Not that he needed any more airplay--his first two major releases already had the Georgian rapper well established as one of the most accomplished Dirty South crossover acts.
CHICKEN & BEER is an apt title for the ravenously hungry record with few moments of sobriety, as Ludacris unleashes his most ...

Jackpot
$7.59 "Gettin Grown" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Urban/Alternative Performance.
Goodie Mob alumnus Cee Lo Green brings his solo debut, which is chock full of the smart rhymes, clever wordplay, and churchy singing skills that lift him above the pack. He states his case from the outset with the sardonic "Bad Mutha," a George Clinton-meets Richard Pryor deconstruction of the more macho side of rap, and rapidly moves through "Big Ole Words" ("how can there be a now if there never was a then/that ...
| | Chuck Jackson Motown Anthology CD (2005) (Import) England; United Kingdom
Jackpot
$20.39 Chuck Jackson's MOTOWN ANTHOLOGY brings together three separate albums from the incomparable R&B star--CHUCK JACKSON ARRIVES, GOING BACK TO CHUCK JACKSON, and TEARDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEART. These rare LPs, valued by many collectors, are now available on this double CD alongside a slew of even rarer 45 recordings and previosly unheard tracks.
Everything from Chuck Jackson's three Motown albums is included on this two-CD compilation, along with 12 rare cuts covering his non-LP single "Pet Names," a couple tracks that didn't surface until after 2000 on Motown rarity anthologies, and nine songs that were released here for the first time. While it's good to have this rare material so thoroughly and conveniently collected into one place, it's neither among Jackson's best work nor among the better off the beaten track Motown sides. The Jackson-Motown combination should have worked better than it did, but for whatever reason, his 1967-1971 recordings for the label didn't click. In fact, to be blunt, this is some of ...
