As a child, living in the small town of Roca, province of Buenos Aires, Hector Roberto Chavero was seduced by traditional music, especially by the touching sound of the acoustic guitar. After taking violin lessons, the young man began learning how to play guitar, In the late '30s, the artist started recording songs, making his debut as a writer in 1941 with Piedra Sola, later writing a famous novel called Cerro Bajo. In 1949, the singer/songwriter went on tour around Europe for the first time, including performances along with French Edith Piaf. Since the mid-1980s, Argentina's Los Fabulosos Cadillacs have been important contributors to the Rock en Espanol movement, and have enjoyed a prolific career and international success with their unique blend of rock, reggae, ska, samba, and other diverse elements.
After an almost seven-year hiatus, the band returned in fine form with 2009's LA LUZ DEL RITMO, which gathers five new songs and a handful of new recordings of older material that capitalizes on the rich stew of influences. Their percussion-heavy sound also lends itself perfectly to two covers--an infectious version of the Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" and an imaginative reworking of an old Ian Dury song.
