One of the Finest Records Ever to Emerge from the 80's
Romeo Void was a band that should have been headlining arenas. Their talent stood out and should have been recognized along with the other highly-skilled 80's bands like the Cars and Dire Straits. The crown jewel of their all to brief catalog is their album, "Instincts". In short, it is among the finest records to have emerged from the '80's. Debora Iyall's vocals carried more emotion and belied a certain intelligence that rarely manifested itself in other female volcalists of the time. But Iyall's vocals and expressive lyrics were only one part of the incredible brain trust that was Romeo Void. Benjamin Bossi's saxophone was no accompanying sound, it lead the way on "A Girl in Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing)" giving the song it's unforgettable hook. Aaron Smith's drumming is simply phenomenal. His rolls and his timekeeping are especially crisp in "Say No". Both Peter Woods and Frank Zincavage's guitars set the pace on the record with the opener, "Out on My Own" where Iyall tells you "I was the girl who tore up the streets, 'house on a hill' was not my dream". And you come away knowing she meant it! No equivocation here. Romeo Void was a band of extremely gifted musicians, with a lead singer whose words and vocals were obviously too smart and too clever for the Top 40 audience. One listen of "Instincts" and you too will agree, this is one incredible record from one incredibly talented group.

The Void is Filled !
One of the most underrated pop-rock, new wave bands of the '80's put out their best foot forward with this 1984 effort ! Unfortunately, this would be Romeo Void's last album together. Instincts had NEVER been released on the c.d. format until NOW (which also makes this cd issue extra special and sought after). Their memorable trademark saxophone sound added to what was then called the New Romantic genre (think Roxy Music, a bit of Spandau Ballet but with a rockier edge)! Lead singer Deborah Iyall's soothing sensual vocals were unlike any other female lead band singer of the time;very unique. Instincts is a rare find and something that a lot of die hard 80's music fans have been waiting for and will cherish ! If you like something with jazzy laden saxophone driven hooks and edgy pre-alternative rock sounds, Instincts is the ticket...
